Jim Hawthorne.
I like Hawthorne and I'm not retarded. As a matter of fact, I'm an ex Radio Announcer/News Director so I know a little about broadcasting. Hawthorne may make an occasional error, who doesn't. But the energy and emotion he brings to his broadcasts are without eqaual, his high energy calls really add to the game and can, when the circumstances of the game and play call all come together can give a Tiger fan chills! He also is much more honest than most other broadcasters, if the Tigers stink, he'll say it. Overall I think he's one of the best I've heard, I enjoy listening to him and want him to continue as "the Voice of the Tigers"!

Thanks RM. You summed it up. So Hawthorne makes a few mistakes. Is he a robot? The man has been broadcasting 3 LSU sports for almost a quarter of a century and still sounds like he's a younger fresh broadcaster with his unbridled enthusiasm when LSU does well, and realism when they do not. I liked John Ferguson also, but he wasn't as emotional as Jim, which I happend to like a lot. It would not be the same without Jim.

I can't believe there is yet another thread bashing Hawthorne.

The thing I really like about Hawthorne is that he's an LSU fan and it's obvious. When the other team makes a great play, he calls it like you or I would.

Henderson for the Saints, however, confuses the hell out of me. He gets just as excited when the other team makes a great play as he would if the Saints did it.

I can't stand announcers that do that.

Just wait until we play a competative team. The guy becomes the biggest doomsday naysayer you've ever heard.

You cannot possibly listen to Hawthorne and get an accurate picture of what's happening on the field.

Just wait for the "My Oh My, the Tigers left that man WIIIDDE Open."

If excitement and distinctive voice tone is the only criteria for being a good play by play announcer, why not get Sponge Bob Square Pants, or Pee Wee Herman to announce the game. So what if they know diddly quat about football.

The guy's not gonna live forever. Everyone has to retire sometime. I believe that time has come for Hawthorne to retire.

I'm not suggesting that we could hire Jim Henderson away from the Saints, but if you want to hear how play by play should be done, listen to that guy.

You're a ding bat. Go back to washing the dishes, and let the real men listen to the football games.

He's horrible. It all started when he called Devery Henderson "Jack Hunt" on the Bluegrass Miracle. How do you confuse a black reciever with the white safety. His basketball calls are no good either. Listen to the next game if you dont beleive us.

My favorite from the last game: When one of our D-linemen (can't remember who) blocked a pass with his facemask from a distance of about three feet.

Hawthorne: "And that pass is ALMOST intercepted!"

as long as Hawthorne is on the radio, the t.v. will be turned down and the sounds of Hawthorne's voice will ring loud for all those around me to hear!!! plus if you have ever seen him walk into the stadium he goes with either a paper bag (fifth of whiskey) or a flask in his back pocket... and that just tells me that he is in the exactly fashion as i am while watching the game

I could not imagine a an LSU football game without Jim Hawthorne being a part of it. I may be biased because he has been calling LSU games as far back as I can remember, and I have nothing else to compare it to, but I am NOT looking foward to the day that Jim retires.

I know he has made mistakes before but you are going over the top on this one. I don't know what type of work you do, but have you ever been put on camera or on radio and been told don't make a mistake, thousands are listening to you? As most of us would, we would make mistakes. Unless you are perfect. Remember, he's not practicing to say a line for 30 seconds, he's doing a whole game. I think you are blowing it up. Hawth bleeds purple and gold, leave him alone.

We deserve to have an announcer that is national championshipi caliber. I love Hawthorne's voice and enthusiasm, but I have to agree that he has digressed to unacceptable levels. I listened to the game on the radio without electricity (thanks Ike) and even without the benefit of visual/tv verification, and he was really bad. It is laughable.

LSU will let him run out his contract in their typical political manner, but any honest person sees clearly that he has digressed to an unacceptable level.

It is very sad, but very true. i love his voice and his dedication, but the truth is the truth. I also hated taking away the keys of my greatgrandfather when he was running over curbs, but it had to be done. It happens to everyone at some point.

Losers, try to find someone as good as J.H. that does baseball, basketball, and football! That's right, you cannot. He loves the Tigers, and no one is happier when they win, or feels it more when they don't. Would like to see what kind of performance some of you do on your jobs. :beatdeadhorse:

When Jims voice is on you Know its Tiger Time he is without a doubt "the voice of the tigers" I wished he wasnt off time with the TV so bad, sometimes Id rather listen to the radio just because of Hawthorne
