You may be right. Cannon was signed by then-Rams GM Pete Rozell, but that contract was voided and Cannon wound up with the Houston Oilers.

The Oilers signed him on the field immediately after the Sugar Bowl.

It was definitely right after the Cotton Bowl after we shut out Texas 13-0, I think was the score.
