Is the fact that he shortened his drop back the reason he was so effective last night? I have never played a down of football and don't claim to be a guru, but it looks very obvious that this simple tweak is exactly what he needed. Thoughts?

Don't know if it was intentional, but he looked more comfortable last night at times when he shortened the drop back. Looked pretty good in the pocket and seemed to have good vision of the field.

Gotta give kudos to Jefferson- he did look much better managing the game throughout. Still some ways to go, but man! He shined last night!

Jefferson looked like an SEC winning quaterback but he had his frick-ups...

he ate the ball on two ocassions or so - looked like he had plaenty of time to throw and held the ball too long... some short throws and throws behind the receivers which left them with no chance for RAC - run after catch...

but he seems to be learning and I could see him hoisting a BCS trophy for the tigers

Still waiting to see him throw away a ball or two when the play is in trouble, especially on 1st down. He always tries to run out of hit (probably because he always could in HS) and, alot of times, he ends up getting sacked for a loss when he could have just thrown it away. Against Bama, this will be an important skill to understand when the play is a bad call and to get out of it in a hurry without forcing a QB run or bad pass that may get intercepted. Ultimately, he needs coaching and I'm not seeing him getting coached up to his potential.

noticed he still took a five step drop in shotgun but he will fix that. Just takes time.

At 6-4, Jefferson towers over the LOS at times. I hope to see more middle screens. That size helps him see over the middle.

O line madeJJ look the way he did last night. Pass protection was much improved.

shorter drop back maybe, and stayed in or stepped into the pocket maybe? Also, was looking to pass when flushed from the pocket, instead of looking to run and take a sack.

Strong work JJ.

I think alot of this had to do with the way the offensive lined blocked last night. Very impressed with the way they stepped up

that shortened dropback did wonders for him. there's no doubt it helped his effectiveness.

this is mainly because the tackles didn't have to create such a deep pocket.

I agree it seemed to make a difference. I was thinking last night... does anybody remember Matt Mauck's development at QB? His problem early on was that he was too willing to give up on the play and just tuck it and run. Then when he came back for spring practice after breaking his foot, the coaches fordid him to run with the ball, forcing him to stay in the pocket and let things develop. Made all the difference in the world in his game. Jefferson has the opposite problem. He'll stay in the pocket and won't give up on the play, even when that's the only thing to do. Not sure what the reason is, but last night shows he is learning. Just part of the overall QB development and when he gets done with it, he's gonna be great.
