Coach Kim Mulkey and the Tigers landed Jada Richard on Wednesday, the top high school prospect from Louisiana, to kick off the signing period.

This early signing period lasts until November 15 and the Tigers could potentially sign others over the coming week. Since Coach Mulkey’s arrival at LSU the Tigers have been dominant in bringing in top-tier talent across the board.

Richard is staying home as the top player out of Louisiana and a four-star, top-100 prospect by ESPNW. The 5-6 guard out of Lafayette Christian Academy has won three straight state championships across three divisions. In this year’s championship game, she scored 32 points with six rebounds, five assists and five steals, being named the game’s Most Outstanding Player.

LCA has had some very good WBB players, has a coach who was a D1 college WBB basketball coach and has been a top program in the state for nearly a decade now. And Jada is hands down the best talent to come out of that program, that includes Megan Abrams who went to Alabama on scholarship back when LSU was not very good and Bama was.

Jada Richard will be the PG Mulkey has been waiting for.

Jada is definitely the best player in the State, and she will definitely be an asset once she arrives on campus. BUT I do have a concern as she was TOTALLY shut down by a Freshman (my granddaughter, Kori Wesley) a few weeks ago.

Kori completely dominated Jada on the defensive end and held her to 6 points total as Southern Lab defeated LCA. I’m a big fan of Jada but Kori had her rattled and made her very uncomfortable the entire game.

The court didn’t have the high school three-point line, only the current college one

She knocked down several threes, even a few several steps behind the three-point line very impressive with the ball in her hand also.

If I’m going to find one thing to criticize, it would be her body language, and demeanor towards her teammates. Being the first time that I’ve seen her play I’m not going to over generalize that issue (could have been just the nerves and excitement of playing at the Cajun Dome).

Yes
Kori is receiving interest from LSU. The staff and players at LSU loves her game. She won Defensive MVP at Coach Mulkey camp last summer. Mikayla Williams is like a big sister to her.

Jada honestly might be better off as a 2 Guard. She’s a bucket, of course she has had a some games that weren’t outstanding but for the most part she’s getting 25 + anytime she steps on the floor.

I live in Lafayette and our school competes against LCA. She’s had that dog in her since she was 9/10 years old.

Side note, I think she’s dating future Tiger Ju’Juan Johnson.

Freshman Kori Wesley did stellar defensive work vs. LSU signee Jada Richard, while 5-foot-10 senior center Gabriell Hill and LCA's 6-foot senior, Eve Alexander, waged an epic war in the paint.

Southern Lab, which is on a six-game winning streak, previously ended another program's quest for a perfect season when the Kittens beat Liberty Magnet, 63-48, on Dec. 30. The Kittens have games coming up against Wossman and Carencro at the Hamilton Christian Tournament.

I think Jada is more of SG than a PG. To get on the court for Coach Mulkey, you have to play DEFENSE. That’s the message Coach tell EVERY camper that attends her camps.

Coach Chaney comments on Kori's defense against Jada. Coach Chaney played on 4 Final Fours at LSU, Was drafted in the WNBA, played overseas professionally and she said Kori is the best defensive player she's EVER seen.

LSU Legend Siemone Augustus was in attendance when Kori and her teammates took down Wossman at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
