This is an autographed jersey from that '86 team I got at an LSU Tour Stop--it's from their 20 year reunion and that's the program from the NCAA below it. Of course, Don Redden-RIP-didn't sign it, but it's got everyone else--you can see Dale Brown at the top of the #2 and John Williams at the bottom of the jersey. (Below that is my Les Miles autographed LSU guitar)
Sorry it's so big, but you can see the individual autographs.

Yeah, it seems that some on here may not be aware of that magical run in '86. Not sure if some were joking.

That season turned around at Auburn.

What I remember from earlier in that 86 season was Nikita Wilson being declared ineligible for the Spring semester. Kinda broke my heart to see him sitting on the court after the loss to Indiana in 1987

1986 really was a good team.

That is Awesome. We need to slowly get the program back to that point.

God, I miss these days!

I had a pretty good time in Atlanta in 2006, but yeah the passion for LSU hoops and college hoops in general has waned here because of the lack of consistency, and I think the overall environment these days where there's so much more else to do with one's free time.

One lasting memory of that game was the Memphis State dance team. The talent was tremendous and they could really dance too. I felt so bad for the Tiger Girls following them.

I had the worst seat in the house. Behind the goal, very last row, all the way up. Awesome atmosphere. Ron Slay

The house did rock a few times in 2000 and I remember the NIT game against Ball State even being very raucous.

But Brady's abrasiveness and inconsistency started to sap the enthusiasm slowly over time. We had some pretty darn good teams in 2005 and 2006 but our crowds never seemed to get back to their previous levels. It's as if they always feared being let down.

I don't ever remember being impressed with a home crowd in Trent's first year and we ran away with the SEC title and had the SEC player of the year in Thornton.

It's just a different era here and I don't know that we'll ever quite get back to that level of fan raucousness even with consistent success. I'd settle for consistent success though.

Hard to believe we ran off Daddy Dale.

Dale got eaten by the monster he created, but the man was fearless and unrelenting in his effort to make LSU basketball successful.

I think what happened at the end was that he was unrelenting no more. He really let the program slip in every facet IMHO the last 4 years. He in my view had much to do with the situation that led to his "retirement".

Dale's teams gave me many special memories and I understand the nostalgic love so many have for him here, but the drama and B.S. was tough for me to take even when things were going good. Thehy were certainly not endearing in the end.

Ultimately LSU admitted and self-reported most of the violations and the NCAA rubber stamped many of the self-imposed sanctions LSU themselves recommended.

Now that I'm with ya' 100%. They were a bad guy in this deal and never got outed for it. Roy-boy was revealed as the two-face he is off that occurrence.

That was the program's watershed moment under Dale. I can remember listening to it at home on the radio like it was yesterday.

Dale's first five years were not exactly successful. This was the first of his teams that IMHO was really a legitimate player on a national scale. By today's standards they possibly would have made the NCAA tourney. That win was a springboard to the success of the program under Dale for the years that followed.

No doubt that he did that every thing.

I don't know if he got tired of the grind or just thought his name was all that was needed to sustain the program, but it fell pretty badly for whatever the reason.

I think Brown rubbed more than just you or a few people the wrong way, but his run of NCAA teams was pretty amazing considering our basketball history.

Yeah, Roy is in my memory banks as one we owe and big time.

I won't dwell on my issues with Dale as he is still loved and revered by many here and it's now years in the past.

I'll just reiterate that his teams provided some great youthful memories for me, and I'm still quite capable of being passionate for all LSU athletic teams without being gay for the coach. And I was then and still am passionate for LSU basketball.

I read this whole thread and I never saw where anyone accused you of being gay for the coach?

i always say Dale took the program from a low point to the highest point in modern history and then returned it to where it was when he started---at the bottom----but boy what a ride!

let's not forget his use of the superdome as an advantage to us by having games--and some big games--there in the regular season. (not sure why Notre dame was one of them but that's another topic)

I was lucky that my Dad was a season ticket holder in the late eighties. I was in high school and we would go to all the home games. Our seats were second row from the top but I loved it. The Loyola Marymount game of 90 is crystal clear to me. Sat in the student section for that game. It was awesome!

In Dale Brown's early years, he was ridiculed in the SEC. His players were called "Brown's Clowns." He never gave up and his salesmanship prevailed, starting with his successful recruitment of Rudy Macklin, from Louisville. Greatness followed. I hope that TJ can do the same.

How cool is this...when I was in 7th grade I had a friend that was a ball boy...and he got me this:

I also went to the airport after LSU beat UK to go to the final four in Dallas and one of the players thru out his cap that said, "Destination Dallas" on it. I still have it.
