basketball has changed now to be everything about one on one, street ball. It's why it is refreshing to see a team like Notre Dame be able to do well these days. These teams can't compare to the teams from 15-20 years ago. These days, someone with extremely marginal next level talent decides to go pro whether ready or not....case and point Mickey.....and then you'll have a lot of kids on here arguing "he getting paid"........truth is he'll probably make a few bucks, for a few years...then what? Not hating...just being truthful....obtaining an education is a joke to most of these kids. Wish they had better advisors/role models.

These so-called "high school" teams are simply conglomerates of all-star players. They have a significant advantage in playing legitimate high school teams, but seem to get ranked as a "high school" nonetheless.

Many of these players dominate against the lesser talented players of other teams. But, when they run into somebody who is as good or better than they are, you see a bunch of crappy (and missed) shots and turnovers, not to mention fouls.

Simmons holds his own against the other "all stars" but no one should presume that he'll be a man among boys at the college level. He will have good games and he will have atrocious games (which our fans will use to claim that he's "overrated"). He'll just be a freshman who will be playing against a bunch of opponents who were all-stars at the high school level and many of them will be older than and have more experience than Ben.

He made up for it by going into the opposing teams huddle on the court...

That was funny as shite!

Meh. The minimum salary in the NBA will be 525 for rookies and then his minimum goes up from there. Using the scale, after 5 years, he should make close to 4.67 mill total, and that's only contract minimum money. A guy making 100k a year would take nearly 47 years to make that same amount.

I'm not saying he will be smart with his money, but if he is, he could even grow that money and make it last the rest of his life. Also, he could head to the Euro league and spend another 5-10 years there.

I hate people saying "stay and get an education", an education in what? Have you seen the majors the majority of athletes take? These guys are like everybody else, using college to earn a living in their profession of choice.

Even playing ball in Europe will pay better than almost anyone else's first job out of college, and the degree will still be there if they want to finish it at a later date. A lot of people aren't cut out for college, and wouldn't be there at all if someone hadn't offered them a scholly. The linkage of athletics and academics in this country is really a nonsequitur, and developed by accident. It doesn't exist anywhere else in the world. Talented individuals in other countries join junior club teams as teenagers or even younger, and progress up through the ranks. Their educational endeavors, if they choose to pursue them, are separate from their athletic pursuits.

You can say that the level of fundamentals being taught is inferior now, and that some are turning pro too early instead of staying in school and polishing their skills. And you'd be right But in general, I never fault a guy for leaving school to pursue what he thinks is a better opportunity-be it Jordan Mickey or Steve Jobs.

You almost never hear this in connection with guys leaving college for the MLB draft.

No. These aren't normal high schools. The schools that were in the National Tournament all play national schedules. They don't play a normal high school schedule and stuff. And they compete against the best of the best in high school across the country in showcases, tournaments, etc.

Do you pay attention to college basketball? The top players in the last few drafts have all been freshman 1 and done players. And they were dominant as true freshman. Age and experience doesn't mean much in college basketball anymore. It's about talent.

And you do realize Simmons is an ELITE basketball prospect right? He would be a top pick in the draft this year if he could go pro and is projected to be the top pick in the 2016 draft. He's a rare prospect at the high school level and has been called the best non post prospect since LBJ and draws comparisons to some of the best basketball players in the game. He's not just a big recruit or whatever, he's 1 of the best recruits to come out in a long time.

Yes "he's just a freshman and will be going against other all starts who are older and more experienced" .... But that doesn't mean shite because he's better than pretty much all of them.

He got jabbed in the eye. He's almost a 70% shooter.
Some of you are truly miserable here...
