Idk. Maybe 09 team. Marcus Thornton was straight killer. Tasmin Mitchell was do everything player. Temple, Johnson, Spencer. It was good team. Challenged UNC like no other.

I like that teams defense and rebounding much better but I do enjoy this team. I’m just worried about the intangibles.

Thorton squad was more experienced but not as talented; these guys have a higher upside. I know there's always 'next year u' jokes but if they keep this nucleus together, they're a final four threat next year

It all depends on what you consider the nucleus of this team to be. Reid gone. Waters might. Williams and Edwards graduate. You never know what Taylor will do just bc he is so athletic. Might go over seas since he came from juco.

I loved that ‘08 team. What Marcus Thornton did was special.

With that said, they were a lower ranked team because their RPI was a joke. It was a joke because they played no one. You have to remember that the SEC at that time was getting 3-4 teams in. LSU played 1...yes 1! Ranked team that season. Xavier and they lost by 10. We also lost by 30 at Utah. Looking at the sec rankings that year is actually tough. Extremely bad year.

LSU had a MAJOR problem down low because CJ was 210, Tasmin was 6’7 and Storm was 6’6. I think this current LSU team wins because of that. There was 1 elite perimeter player and a very good post guy who played in a shite conference. Let’s break it down.

Waters vs Spencer- give me Waters
Mays vs Thornton- Thornton but Mays would be guarded by Temple
Taylor/Smart vs Temple- these 2 would be guarded my Thornton so this is a push, perhaps advantage to 2018/2019
Reid va Taz- Taz has the experience, but Naz has the skill and size. Unfavorable choice, but given their matchups, give me Naz
KBW vs Johnson- KBW because he has girth to him

I’m sorry but you HAVE to take into account that ‘08 played 1 ranked team therefore they looked better than they were. I’m pissed because we played UNC and we did have the ability to beat anyone, but our schedule was so bad we got what we deserved.

It’s 50/50 on Reid and Waters. Very easily could see Reid staying. Waters is more iffy than Reid. Taylor will be back, he works hard in the classroom and wants to graduate. He’s not leaving yet. KBW graduates but Emmitt and Days and Cooper one year older plus Mays/Hyatt/Smart. Damn.

The 08-09 team wasn’t as talented, but they were a really good, veteran led team with Thornton, Tasmin, Temple, C Johnson. Their biggest problem was they weren’t very deep.

Depth was definitely an issue that year. We played UNC as close as anybody that year and lack of quality depth cost us that game. You could tell a huge difference when our starters weren't on the floor. We had a good chance of winning that game if had some more good players outside our starting 5.

Marcus Thornton is the best player on court for both teams. Like i said, he was killer. Nowhere near a push.

He averaged 21, 5, and 2. Just not a push man. Idc about defense when you have temple ar other guard. He played hard in college on defense. Not in NBA. You living in the present

I'm getting pissed off again thinking about that game getting away now.

I remember someone posting a link to a UNC board after the game and they seemed as pissed as we were, even though they won. Lots of posts about us being better than a #8 seed and how the NCAA should've never set that potential matchup in the 2nd round.

That marcus thornton team would beat us right now. This team has way more upside though. These guys might be a team nobody wants in the tourny

People underestimating the senior leadership on that team. Spencer was able to be a bitch after they graduated.

This team has more talent though. That team had like mid major type team in 09

And Skylar Mays is an elite defender but gets zero credit. Since I’m living in the present, Isaiah Joe was the #1 3-point shooter in the sec coming into tonight...care to tell me what he shot?

Temple got so much deserved attention from his D because of JJ Redick. Temp was bad bad bad on Offense all throughout college. Sure he could play defense but he was a black hole. That 2 team had 2 scorers and that’s it. Not to mention they played virtually no one with a pulse all season

lot and the coaching was lacking.

lol! That’s putting it very mildly! ‘Putrid’, ‘atrocious’ , ‘worst I’ve ever seen’ are some of the descriptions I’d use instead.

Oh my. You said temple got so much credit cuz what he did against jj. You got to be some young dude bro. Anybody who had season tickets in temples career understand his devotion to defense. frick dude watch him play an nba game today. Watch his toughness. He don’t play bc offense. Im done listening to you talk basketball lmao. You compare Isaiah joe to jj reddick basically lmao. What a joke. A guy who averaged 19 in his career and 26 his senior year to a guy who is scoring 14 ppg lol.

Also I know you didn’t really watch back then bc temple was a black hole until around his senior year when he was able to hit 3 point at a clip that made players guard him. It was around 30 percent which is what everybody’s all American Taylor shoots. I’m sure he is your favorite player in LSU history bc he scored 21 today. Come on dude
