I think David Jones could have been one of the best, but they (Jimbo) use the TE appropriately

+1(from a receiving standpoint) I always thought the same thing. The few times they got him the ball he was amazing. 2003 SEC Champ game & 2003 Arky standout from what I can recall.

I was looking up something in Peter Finnery's, The Fighting Tigers, and came across Bud Montet's All-Time Tiger Team. This book was published in 1968, and Bud Montet died in 1999, but thought I'd mention this:

The ends for Montet's All-Time team were Ken Kavanaugh and Gaynell Tinsley. This is what he had to say about Tinsley:

quote:

Without a doubt, the best college football player I ever saw. He did things in the thirties that the pros are just now getting around to doing.

Just fyi, his choice for qb was Y.A. Title and his running backs were Steve Van Buren ("My choice as the greatest runner ever to play for LSU"), Billy Cannon and Jimmy Taylor.

Not saying he's the best, but Malcolm Scott always gets left out of the TE discussion. He shouldn't. I think Royal was the best we had. Hope Dickson makes the argument moot.

He is going in to his Junior season and we are having this discussion..........................................................................................................I would say that he is pretty good.
Remember, he is the single season reception leader in LSU history and did it as a sophomore.

Yes Honarary, I agree, Malcom Scott was very good for us in the early eighties, and especially on the 82 team. But Kinchen was good, Mitch Andrews was alright, but dropped a few , but in my opinion, Dickson is the best. He has the best hands of any tight end I have ever seen us have. He makes all the catches. And I'm sure he will continue to. He will have the most yardage of any tight end we have ever had I bet. Also, Dickson will probably come close to being an All American tight end, which I don't think we have ever had. Could be a 1st teamer!

"i think he is in the top five."

Way to risk your reputation on a claim... I thought you might actually bravely step forward and answer your radical question about being "the best ever." I was hoping to see you stake it all on the absolute claim! But then I open the post and read that all you're willing to bet on is that he is in the top 5! Ah come now! Grow some balls, rantard!

Try again. Dickson had 1,587 yards, 15 TDs in 06 and 2,153 yards, 25 TDs in 07. Dickson is God.

I'd be interested to see if anyone had any stats on Lafleur from earlier seasons.

Named Walter Camp All-American in 1996. All SEC soph & sr seasons. Great blocker.

David LaFleur...

I went to Westlake with him his freshman year while I was a junior. The kid was a man-child at 14 years old. I followed him at LSU and thought he was great.
