Is Nuss really a NC type QB??

Honest question. I just don’t see it,

Did you see it from Burrow in 2018 or Matt Flynn in 2006?

With good support around him, sure. If he has to throw it 45-50 times a game with little to no running game, then of course not

I bet you didn't see JB or JD winning the Heisman either. Don't lie. They were both projected to be in the 5th to 7th round range after their first year starting. It is funny how people on here forget the struggles each had their first years. All you hear is how JB used his legs. Sure, he did, in 2019.....but in 2018 people were calling for a QB change midway through the season, me included. It blows my mind how low the IQ is on here, at times.

What's a North Carolina type QB?
Posted on 12/2/24 at 6:24 am to BigApple
Opposite of JD. We need to build some plays around it but he absolutely has to develop in to a running threat. NCs require quite a few lucky bounces and calls but also critical 3rd down running conversions by the QB.

Could he be? Maybe so.
Do we have the o-line and schemes to be? Maybe not.

If he improves from year 1 to year 2 (as a starter) as Burrow and Daniels did, then, yes.

im pretty sure Nuss in his first year starting has done plenty to warrant that he is good enough. Had his oline not been decimated with injuries, he was good enough this season to get us to the playoffs. But most of the rant is infatuated with the backup. Tiger fans need to be thanking the kid for the season. You go watch other qbs including ewers, beck, etc. Nuss was just as good as them if not better(until delly got hurt). Will also be #2 in LSU history for passing yards in a season. The fanbase is entirely too critical on this kid

With a solid OC that can game plan and not require him to throw 40-50 times a game, then yes.
With that, he won't win one if he is the QB at LSU.

Honest question. I just don’t see it,
In an interview last week, an prominent agent stated that there are not expecting any "Cam Ward type QBs" in the portal. My point is you aren't getting a better QB than Nuss out of the portal.

He needs a lot of help that is not coming.

The 2024 version of Nuss....NO!!! We will see if he protects the football better going forward.

This is the answer. We need better run blocking in the OL and TEs. We also need more versatility in the WR group, especially the speed and size to be a consistent deep shot threat. Durham just needs to get healthy and we need Berry to be ready to go as his relief.
Nuss is more than capable of taking a step forward if the rest of the offense can take some of the stress off of his arm and open up the field.

It takes a lot to win a natty. 2019 had two first round WRs, a first round RB, OL drafted and a lot of players on defense that are still in the NFL.
We had 14 players selected in 2020.
This team has a lot of holes right now if we’re using 2019 as a gauge of what it takes to win a natty

Great point. Here's your list of the last five National Championship QBs. One of these is not like the others.
J.J. McCarthy
Stetson Bennett

Mac Jones
Joe Burrow

Honest answer. Yes.
But so much depends on the surrounding cast. Some of his deficiencies can be attributed to lack of a running game, no game breaker receivers, poor interior offensive line play and a defense that can’t stop running quarterbacks and force him into obvious passing situations to move the offense.

Honest question. I just don’t see it,
The kid just threw for the 3rd most yards in program history with basically no running game. I think people are way too focused on Nuss and not the other missing pieces. He got knocked out of the Oklahoma game then came back in and threw two deep ball TDs to Hilton. He could've easily just sat out the rest of the game and let Swann play. Not having a deep ball threat and having no running threat in the red zone hurt us just as bad as his bad turnovers in big games.

If he stays we have a shot next year but he will have to get better at getting out of the pocket and running to extend drives. Also because we lose our best O-Lineman as well.

He could be, and he'd have to make some improvements to his game, but he has the physical traits.
