I posted a few days ago that i thought he was much better coaching at LSU then i thought he was at Tennessee. Never did we play Tennessee when he coached there did i ever concern myself with LSU not being to move the ball against them. Not the case now.

The easy way to explain that is Tenn doesn't get the talent on Defense that LSU does. Even back then. Yes, they did have a lot of very good defenses, but he never had it top to bottom the way he does at LSU where he has guys coming off the bench that will play in the NFL.

Remember when UT fans like Sabanocchio were crowing about how much of an improvement Monte Kiffin would be over The Chief? Not so fast my friend!

Looking back now with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, it's astounding to realize that Monte Kiffen's best college defense statistically was his very first at Tennessee with Chavis's players.

And even at that, it was in some ways worse than Chavis' last defense at Tennessee, with many of the same players. Chavis's last UT D gave up only 16.8 ppg, compared with Kiffen's 21 ppg.

Add to that, Chavis' first defense at LSU, with none of the players his recruits, was a vast improvement from the one fielded by the co-coordinators. And it gave up only 16 ppg, again compared with Tennessee's 21 ppg.

The Chief!

Chavis, since he has been here, has (multiple times) singled out players and said they are the best he's ever coached at their respective positions

3rd and Chavis make me nervous sometimes but no doubt he is the best DC in the SEC today. Very glad he's with us and not another team.

Not sure. He coached there a long time and def has put more players in the league from ut. But that has to do with his tenure.

Tenn fans wanted fulmer and everything ab him gone. Lets just say the fans dont always know whats best. The guy was still winning the east. Look at where they are now.

And lets be honest. Those UT teams were way more talented than LSU at that time. Hard to say we have more talent now with out me doing research. But his guys are prob too young to judge them on nfl careers, Vs the older tenn guys. Off top of my head we never had eric barry or albert haynesworth under chavis at lsu. No one that good at safety or dt. Yet.
