Both Emery Jones and especially Will Campbell were REALLY good before last season, and under Brad Davis. For whatever reason both took a sizable step back this past year. Emery Jones might have played himself clear out the Top 2 rounds at this point when he looked like a late 1st/2nd rounder going into the season.
Hard to pinpoint what happened there considering we returned the entire OL including Dellinger and Frazier outside of C. It could have been a scheme change of sorts going from Denbrock to Sloan, it could have also been some of Davis completely forgetting how to coach tackles or something, IDK. Dellinger and Frazier both were able to have solid years comparable or even better to previous ones. We obviously had a HUGE downgrade at center going to Chester, but the downfall of Campbell and especially Emery Jones was difficult to watch and understand. Fortunately for Campbell it didnt affect his draft position seemingly (1 or 2 off the board at OT), but Emery Jones honestly almost should have came back for another season with how far he could have fallen in this draft.
