true that Gainesville isn't great and the people are, well, from Florida, so the cheese factor is high.
But the Swamp is a hell of an environment for college football. Very loud, beautiful grass field. Fans there love the Gators. I wear my Tiger gear and sit in the UF section with my buddy, and everyone has been very nice. Campus is pretty nice too.
We go to the bars across the street from the stadium to drink and watch early games, and then head to a tailgate. Been doing it for 15 years. Never had a problem.

Same here, one of my favorite trips! We get there around midnight Thursday, do our grocery shopping and eat at Hogans Heros for lunch(great sandwiches!). We set up a partial tailgate in the hotel parking lot Friday afternoon and cook a little sausage and boudin. Lots of people stop in, have a beer, eat a bite and talk a while. Made many friends at the Friday's and Saturdays tailgates that we meet up with at all away games and home games. There are hotels just south of campus (someone mentioned Econolodge) that are not great but a place to sleep may be all you can find at this time. Just get on map app and enter hotels. Easy to find, they are on S.W. 13th street. We tailgate on Saturday at the corner of SW 13th and SW 8th st.(SW 8st is also called Museum st). Come have a beer with us Friday or Saturday!

Stay in Ocala, that is where the team stays. Great trip and fun to walk out of the stadium after a win.
