You have no way of knowing this. In 1999, we stunk in the first game, a sloppy 29-21 win over San Jose State. The next week, we looked much better blowing out North Texas 52-7 (or 52-0?). We lost our next 8 games and Gerry DiNardo got fired. That year, the first week was a MUCH better indication than the second week of the quality of our team. The second week is no magical crystal ball. It can be as misleading as any other week.

Amen! Its the first game of the year. If any of you had played sports in your life you would know that things dont always look as sharp the first time out. At game time, it was 9:30 in Baton Rouge. At the end of the game, it was around 12:30 or 1:00 a.m. You don't think our guys can stay up that late? Hell, they do that in the bars on a regular basis.
