for one thing, because we do not care what happens to the other teams.

for another, in my own case, I actually root for the contenders to lose, so it becomes more likely LSU will be selected for the champ game.

For example, although it is highly unlikely, I would be delighted if U of Ky somehow beats Georgia and USCe plays LSU in the SEC champ game, because without Lattimore USCe is an easier game.
