If LSU would eliminate the run up the middle play, except for <2 yards to go, how much would the offense improve? I say a ton. It would force the coaches to become more creative on all running plays. Quick short passes can be just as good as a run.

The Arkansas defensive coaches had to be laughing their asses off the entire game at LSU's high school offense. Stack the box with 8 and pray LSU runs the ball up the middle which they did every time. No need to worry about an audible, it does not exist. Repeat for second down. Third down, blitz one extra guy. Double cover Dural who is going long. Watch for the scramble at the first sign of pressure. Get ready for the punt. Arkansas coaches were probably bored, I saw them yawning, because LSU's offense was so predictable and easy to stop.

Eliminating this one play, run up the middle, would make a world of difference for LSU's offense. This is an easy change and defense coordinators would be shocked.

We would get so many delay of game penalties trying to figure out what to run that it would be counter productive.

When in doubt.....toss dive.

The toss dive is the least of our worries on offense.

That would reduce their playbook by 25%.

The toss dive is about the best thing this offense does...

The toss dive is LSU's entire offense!!!

If it fails LSU does not score. There is currently no back up plan on offense if the run up the middle is stuffed. Wake up.

The problem I have with the toss dive is the fact that it completely takes away the threat of play action. That would be huge for our offensive problems.

In the off season I was reading a college football preview article (on ESPN I think), and they had comments from opposing asst coaches sizing up the teams (anonymously). The asst coach from the anonymous team that gave his take on LSU was that we were really pretty simplistic and easy to watch film on and scheme for. He said that "LSU doesn't try to catch you off balance or create a lot of mismatches. They simply do what they do every year and usually do it pretty well. They don't disguise anything so you know what's coming every time. The problem is stopping it."

Apparently not a problem this season.

Toss dive is actually a solid play.

I like it a lot and hope we keep it.

The problem is, no running play works against 9 men fronts for the entire season when you have no threat of a pass.

If this were true, why doesn't any other team in college football run it?
