would your reaction be similar?

I think so but that was at least a lateral move.

About the same. Both were worse of options mentioned out of every single candidate. Its like working for Apple and finding out that your new CTO is Ken Lay. You hope for the best but update your resume.

I'd throw my own feces at Miles and I actually really like Les. I'm fine with this hire and am laughing at those freaking the frick out/falling for Aggy/Arky trolls

We've got an undeniable great recruiter in Steele. I don't know if the same could be said for Stoops.

Stoops would actually be worse, in my opinion. He's a guy fresh off a bad job. At least we can hope Steele picked up a thing or two from Saban, and we know he can recruit the south.
IMHO, Steele and promoting Brick are about equal. Considering the shows that are being filled and the time spent, both are lackluster hires. O as DC would have been more risky (higher ceiling, but possibly a lower basement as well), but still a notch above Steele or Brick.
