He did not have the lead when he left the game. The 2 runs were scored in the 9th inning

Pittsburgh was not winning when he was pulled from the game.

They weren't winning when he exited the game.

His team wasn't winning when he left

The Pirates didn't get the lead until after he had already left the game

The game was tied when he left. It’s a no decision. The team has to maintain the lead once the starter leaves after 5 innings complete for the starter to receive a win decision.
A loss decision can be be given if the starter gets pulled at any point during the game and the team behind in runs once the book is shut on them.

The Cardinal pitcher Mikolas was even better last night. Gave up one hit in seven innings.

Not sure if anyone said this yet, but the Pirates weren't winning when he left the game.

Ask your boyfriend to explain it to you. Nice troll.

Maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it’s bc the pirates were not leading when he left the game

I never liked how baseball determines what pitchers get credit for the win. If you pitch 4 or more innings, games tied when you get pulled, your team never gives up the lead, then the starting pitcher should get credit for the win.

it’s how it’s always been.
thats why people have stopped looking at Wins as the best metric for a pitcher.
of course the longer you go in games the better your chances of getting a win.
Quality Starts is a better metric

Should a QB get credit for a touchdown pass when his RB rushes it into the end zone because he completed 4 passes for 60 yards on the drive?
