Yes the defense got torched. But they also kept us in the game in the first half when the offense was horrible. And gave us chances to win in the second with turnovers.

Before halftime it was clear our defense was exhausted. Guys like ward looked like they were on the last 100 yards of a half marathon trying to run fast.

If the offense doesn’t $#!t the bed in the first half the defense doesn’t play as bad in the second half.

The offense was better in the second half, but when it became a case of “must” score we had no identity or playmaker to turn to. By then the defense had nothing left.

Redzone offense should be a concern. Brennan’s confidence and decision making should be a concern. Our DBs should be a concern. Bo not having any adjustment to turn to should be a concern.

But none of yesterday was quite as bad as it looked in isolation. Total team loss and both sides of the ball hurt the other side.

Time of possession was exactly even. If the defense was in fact gassed, that’s a depth/conditioning issue

I’ll say it again

You cannot blame the offense for the defensive struggles when the defense gave up something like 12-15 third and long plays.

The reason the defense was gassed was because they could not make a play and get off the field in third downs. The only time
The defense got off the field in third down was when they gave up a third and long TD.

I don’t think state punted a single time after the first quarter.

frick me that should be obvious.

And I’m not here to defend Myles and the offense, they were not great at all.

But you don’t give up an SEC record 600 plus passing yards and then say, “yeah that’s the offenses fault”.

Our DBs were not getting their heads around to look for the ball at all.
We had them at 3rd and 10 so many times and let them convert what seemed almost every time.

Stingley and his energy would’ve been the difference. He’d probably have 2 picks and scare Costello from throwing to that side of the field the rest of the game.

While I do agree offense wasn’t doing us any favors and looked slow and indecisive, BUT defense lost us this game. Our D let fricking Moo State break records on them... MOO STATE threw for 600+ yards!

It was an all around bad effort. The offense had a horrendous first half, the defense is why we were in the game in the first half.

The exact opposite in the 2nd half.

We need Stingley back.

OK. Let’s try to be more objective.
We had no running game to speak of. Being able to run for more than a couple yards would have helped the passing game and rested a thin defense. Brennan looked slow to recognize the defense. Didn’t help that he was under a lot of pressure most of the time.
I don’t recall many, if any passes to a back and did not recall any cutback moves or especially good plays from any back. None stood out to me

Defensive line played well. Linebackers at times looked lost. Defensive backs looked slow to react, like they were thinking instead of reacting. Missed assignments nearly every play.

Overall poorly coached and poorly prepared. Yes they were thin but the coaches have to have a way to limit the damage from that. Lack of halftime corrections suggests a lack of real options more that incompetent coaches.

They can improve but it will take a lot of work.

Agree 100% with this.. the two or three drops in the first half. Brennan threw behind a couple of guys as well. Cost us first downs and possession time.

And clearly we do not know how to play zone defenses... not that it would have helped.

After a Qtr and a half it was 15 MSU. 7 LSU. We had three or four three and outs. Then the pick six as well.

600 yards passing on 15 possessions

Almost no rushing yards.

The offense punted 7 times and has 2 turnovers.

The defense got us 10 of our 34 points with a Turnover in FG position (the offense promptly lost 1 yards in 3 plays) and a pick 6.

Simply put we wasted way too many possessions and gave them the ball too many times to expect a low scoring game.

Defense was awful. Offense could easily still have won the game. We punt at midfield on a fourth and three with 6 minutes left. As bad as we played. That was the game.

Pretty much knew after we tied it it would take two scores to win. They scored twice. We punted.

Stingley and Logan probably worth one or two stops. And maybe victory.

Having said that we won’t win any of the tough road games without really huge improvement
