This is an interesting point. We've exceeded expectations so much that I sometimes worry that it is a onetime aberration. I was expecting a small improvement over the last two years and then an improving record every year as Kelly built his team.
But looking at how he's done things, I think he's set up a foundation where the team will continue to succeed. Both the way the team has played and his success in recruiting point to a bright future. We just started at a little higher level than I expected.

I really liked the hire, from Day 1.
He has won a lot everywhere he's been, which means he is super smart, adaptable, and means he has good people on staff.
Winning at Notre Dame is different than winning at Cincinnati, which is different than winning at Grand Valley State and Central Michigan.
Each program has it's own strengths and weaknesses, politics, regular opponents, recruiting footprint, etc.
Each stop has its own winning formula.
I knew he would win here. I figured that between the returning roster, his learning curve and the depth of the SEC, that it would take him a couple of years to get us rolling.
So yes - I felt like he was a great hire when we got him here.
