Stats don’t tell the whole story of last year’s defense. They were actually capable of playing well, especially in the second half when LSU needed to close out the game. And following 2020 and 2021, House wasn’t going to be overly scrutinized. That’s out the window, now.

It is perfectly normal to run a hybrid of the previous system when you take over a defense and most successful DCs do this. Lsu played significantly more man coverage last year, which is not what House wants to do in his scheme. He’s almost always run zone schemes as a major part of his defense.

He did okay last year but was helped by 3 awful OOC teams we played other than FSU. Bad teams in Auburn and MSU as well as the Arky icebowl.

In the end he had a good not great first year. Shift to year two and he has fully installed his scheme and this is what you are getting.
