Had an opportunity to get to Hoover for the ill fated semifinal against Vandy. Here are my observations:

1. We never sat in our purchased reserve seat. You could have fried an egg on it. We moved into the shade in general admission like many others.
2. I hear lots of complaining on the Rant about the stadium in Hoover, but I found it to be well kept, and with friendly attendants. The field was beautiful, but what happened on it was not.
3. Vandy hit almost everything right on the nose- I frankly think we were fortunate that they didn’t score more. They are very impressive, especially against a tired club scrapping to field competitive pitching. We are capable of beating them, but it will take our very best effort.
4. Congrats to Antoine who is closing in on the all time LSU hit record.
5. I think we are not going to be pushovers for anyone in the NCAA tournament, notwithstanding the score today.
6. Best food award on this trip goes to Ro’s Diner in Athens, Alabama. Philly steak sandwich was awesome.
7. Travel tip of this outing: go see the Ark north of Lexington. I expected it to be good, but it blew me away. The largest wood structure in the world is well worth traveling to see. Kid friendly and elder friendly. We stopped by to see it heading south after going to Mackinak Island, Michigan. (Froze our butts off there, and then got fried in Hoover).
8. Quote of the week (from a Vandy fan, regarding the whistler). “We hate him too.”
9. Geaux Tigers, regroup, get rested, and turn some heads in the tourney coming up.

I respect his right to cheer for his team (by whistling), but he carries it to the extreme. I think he just craves attention and this is his way to get it. I would say this whether he was a Vandy fan or a Tiger fan. He could do his thing 1/20th as much, and still accomplish getting his team’s fans active and engaged.
