John Wooden said, "Dale did an outstanding job in raising the level of LSU basketball to the status of equality to anyone in the country. Also, if heads of states throughout this troubled world of ours had real concern and consideration for others as Dale Brown, I doubt if our racial, religious, and political problems would be a major issue."

Great post and info Pisces

LSU was a basketball school back then PERIOD.

No the fact that the NCAA had a hardon for Dale is why bball has for the most part been sucky since he was coach. Go look at the multitude of other sports programs and thier violations, and then the penalties. LSU was targeted by them, and made to pay because he called thier BS long ago.

He spent his entire career stroking a flacid cock into said hard on. His mouth backfired on him, as did the rules he was breaking.

was reading the thread someone started about Chris Jackson. A poster commented about the enthusiasm that surrounded the PMac, and now... well...not so much.
Some contribute it to Jackson, Shaq, etc. The fact of the matter is this... Dale Brown was the main reason for basketball's popularity in Baton rouge. I don't think he gets enough credit.
Yes, I was fortunate to see players like Chris Jackson, Don Redden, Shaq, Dwayne Scales, Ethan Martin, Ricky Blanton, Vernell Singleton. But I was even more fortunate to witness the Dale Brown era! That's the point here guys. He gave us the magic. Like him or not... I credit Dale for my LSU Basketball Golden Years

Dale put LSU on the national map in roundball. Late 70's thru early 80's were fantastic. LSU was the rock star of the SEC in those days, just as much or more than UK. He beat UK more times than any other coach... 18. Those were the days, the PMAC rocked ! Dale invited my brother and I on the team bus after a victory over Vandy in the mid 80's. Then invited us back to the team hotel. Dale was one of a kind.

I'll add that Dale seemed to genuinely care about his players as human beings first. It was not and still is not schtick, IMO.

You have no idea, dumbass. Dale Brown knew about all the payments and free cars. If you think otherwise, well, you're wrong. There is also no arguing the obvious repercussions of his "gestapo" offensive.

LSU-USC '79.... Greatest sporting event I've ever been to. And again, your guard moved.

actually the guard and tackle. But I say they moved when the ball was snapped. It was the other 9 players tht did not move on time. I listed on the radio and could not hear what happened when SC was going for the wining score. I did ot find out they scored until after the radio break when they were kicking off.

Actually Dale is the reason it sucks now. Remember that whole probation thing surrounding Lester Earl? That was Dale's doing.

While there certainly is some truth to you comment about the basketball probation, I will give Dale a pss becasue he created the modern LSU basketball program. Prior to Dale Brown, LSU consisted of a few bright moments of individual players such as Sparky Wade, Bob Petit and Pete Maravich. LSU, with Dale Brown as coach, challenged Kentucky and was not only copmpetitive but became a true rival until Dale's and LSU's demise.

Kevin Williams was the wide receiver for SC who caught the winning score.. later killed in a train accident. Wildest atmosphere I've ever witnessed, actually started on Friday night when SC came to the stadium for the walk thru. Hundreds of LSU fans were waiting for them, SC wouldn't get off the bus.

A certain large Ford dealership in BR was a major recruiting tool for Brown.

NCAA only proved it once. While you were in the crib, they investigated LSU football and basketball in the mid 80's... got nothin'.

Yeah, I heard about the train accident a few months ago. He was called The Flea or The Bug. He actually played pre-season for the Saints and was cut. Too small. I did hear about the weekend atmosphere. Crazy I heard. ALl I know is I could not hear jack on the radio. I have the game on DVD. McKay said he tried his best to prepare his team for the crowd inside and outside the stadium. he said he failed not only them in that aspect, but himself. Siad he had never seen anything like it. Of course there is the Bradde Budde (SC OL) quote that said Notre Dame is like Romper Room compared to Tiger Stadium. All the SC stuff I have read, said the players were spent, exhausted like never before. and amazed at the experience.
