It's where 73 is at the snap, not at the end of the play. He was outside the tackle box and the ball crossed the line of scrimmage. We would have screamed bloody murder if that happened to us. Would losing 10-2 have made you feel better?

Etling outside the tackle box hit while attempting to throw and grounding is called to take a FG off of the board. Both close, Bama gets both calls. Go figure....

They got every call. Etling slides and gets speared by Foster, no call.

It wasn't even clear that Etling threw the ball.
Just be consistent about it, that's what I want to see against Bama. Too much to ask I guess.

It's close but it doesn't matter as you can't win if the offense doesn't score.

Etling doesn't have to if his attempt to throw is impeded by a defender. He was hit from behind as he was throwing. That's the point...

inside 73 all day

73 moved about 5 yards to his right.

Jesus, some of you.

To the first poster, yes, he's inside of 73 at the time of the pass, but that's irrelevant. The tackle box is drawn from where the tackles line up before the snap.

To the second poster, no, he didn't move five yards to his right. He moved 1-2 yards to his right, probably.

The QB is right on the line of the tackle box. And honestly, the quarterback usually gets the benefit of the doubt, in that situation. So I don't think it was some terrible call. It was a borderline call that went to the offense's way. And usually that's the case.

This is one of those plays that could have been called either way, and it really wouldn't have been a bad call either way. It was extremely close.

Etling, got hit and panicked, can't blame him for that. He'll have nightmares for several months if not years. He threw blindly and was five yards from the line of scrimmage. Very poor and desperate comparison. You got your butts beat, get over it.

I thought so as well and decided to import the image onto my computer and prove it.

Turns out I was wrong. He is clearly in the tackle box by a couple of yards.

ETA: The tackle box is measured 5 yards from the snapper - not from where the tackle lines up.

That's the tight end dumbest, the tackle box is tackle to tackle, not measured by distance
