Maybe. Baseball is a sport where “trying harder” doesn’t always translate to playing better. But having played in some big games before, I know a good pregame pep talk before you take the field can help turn some of that nervous energy into hyper-focus and a feeling of invincibility. I remember thinking “hit it to me, motherfricker,” or “throw me a fricking fastball, bitch” and “frick you, this is my plate, motherfricker, you’re not hitting this shite.” Now, that’s not sustainable, especially over 9 innings, but I do think—if channeled the correct way—that energy can help teams get off to good starts, especially in the 1st.
