There are tiger fans out there that if given the choice, they would agree to pay $5 per ticket and go 6-6 every year than to pony up the cash for top notch facilities and coaches and have a shot at the national championship every year.

I disagree. I think some folk confuse being rational and not freaking out with accepting mediocrity after a 9-4 season.

Link? Evidence? Can you point to someone here that resembles that remark?

I don't expect LSU to win every SEC game. I hope for it to happen, but I'm realistic about the differences between hope and chance. There are other very (sometimes more) talented teams in the SEC. We play Bama and Auburn every year. When Bama is down, Auburn is up. When Auburn is down, Bama is up. And we play Florida every year; every other year it's in the Swamp. It's not realistic to expect to beat every evenly matched team.

I understand odds. I understand variables. I understand that, sometimes, the ball bounces funny. Ole Miss, Miss State, and Arky can beat anybody on some weeks.

I don't expect LSU to have a losing SEC record. While we may have only an even chance of winning some games (Florida and Bama), we have a better or much better than even chance of winning most games. Losing no more than one or two SEC games a year is acceptable to me. Some years, LSU will win them all; however, it is not realistic to expect going undefeated every year.

I recognize problems than can't be solved easily (Ryan Perrilloux, 2009 O-line), and problems that should be solved (2008 D-coordinator, 2009 O-play-calling, QB play). LSU's record in 2008 and 2009 would have been (possibly much) better if Perrilloux hadn't screwed up. That's an undeniable fact. I can't fault Miles for recruiting him, and I applaud Miles for booting him. I applaud Miles for hiring Chavis. I hope that Crowton, the O-line, and QB play improve in 2010. It's a process. Miles appears to learn.

I don't skew statistics to advance a viewpoint. I don't spout Miles' five year record, nor do I spout his two year record. The five year record does not reflect the trend. Neither does the two year record. Sure, we were 8-8 in the SEC for the last two years, but that was 3-5 in 2008, and 5-3 in 2009. I realistically expect a better result in 2010.

I won't accept inexcusable mediocrity. I think there are acceptable reasons for the past two years. It's hard to think of an acceptable excuse for anything less than a winning SEC record this year.

I understand that there are worse places than being in the frying pan. LSU continues to recruit well. IMHO, LSU's program is looking very good for 2010. I don't see any available coaches that are more valuable to LSU than Miles right now. After this season, that view might change.

So call me a understands-perfection-is-not-easily-attained-but-realistically-expects-success-and-understands-that-you-have-to-play-them-all-and-the-grass-is-not-always-greener-on-the-side-so-lets-at-least-be-honest-about-the-facts-tiger.

Go Tigers!

This. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I will add that I've always been a Tiger fan, from the word go. My parents weren't big sports fans so it's all self-generated for me. From player to spectator.

I don't identify with either term; positiger or negatiger. Both terms are ridiculous if you ask me. I am a fan who expects to see a good game and a good LSU team on the field. I expect LSU to win a majority of their games; I don't expect them to win the SEC every year. Let's face it...this is the toughest conference in the nation and running this gauntlet is a meat-grinder every year.

A lot of my close friends tell me every year that they're thankful their teams aren't in the SEC.

You wouldn't, because they're coaching other teams right now. This idea that has been floated on the Rant lately that somehow, out of 119 teams, there are no available coaches out there is just bunk. Their "agents" are available, I can guarantee you that, and background conversations are taking place all the time, whether or not the coach has publicly said anything.

With LSU's talent, resources, facilities, reputation and tradition there are easily 5 major coaches right now that would take a look at LSU, and 4 of those would be an immediate upgrade to Les Miles.

I was a positiger from 2000 to 2009 and then halfway through the season last year I got tired of constantly taking up for Les Miles. I "saw the light" after the Ole Miss game.

In fact, the one thing that got me by that day was that I surrendered in taking up for Les Miles and have ever since. And it wasn't just that one game, but that was the absolute straw that broke the camel's back for me.

I always thought being optimistic was the essence of being a Tiger fan. You go into Tiger Staduim hoping and pulling for LSU no matter who they play.

Maybe this could be the year.

Do you always answer a question with a question?

Just name five coaches better than Miles that will leave their job to coach at LSU.

It's only five names.

I'm an LSU Tiger fan, that's who I am and that's who I cheer for. I find it disrespectful to ask me about other teams. I'm excited about our damn strong football team that is about to compete for a championship. Have a Great Day

I have always had high expectations regardless of the coach or the era in question. If one wants to label that, so be it.

"I speak as I please" just like the late great Hap Glaudi of WWL TV and Radio used to say. (Hap was a New Orleans print and broadcasting legend like Buddy D whom most on here have probably never seen or heard)

I'm realistic and tell it like it is regardless of how many P + G pom poms are violently shaking around me. I'll defend to the death though, your right to express an opinion no matter how outrageously WRONG that opinion is! (And those "Flawed" opinions are multitude in this vicinity).

I've been going to LSU games since the 60's and have been to most of the "Big" historical games in TS since then as a fan, GBFTL member and Alum. Mediocrity for LSU is NOT an option in my thinking. I define mediocrity, at least in terms of this program, as finishing the season behind anybody in the S.E.C. West minimum. 9-3 would be great for most programs, but LSU isn't most programs. 9-3 in the regular season, with several close calls against weak teams, gross and embarrassing coaching mistakes on national television, a Bowl loss to a slow Big 10 team and finishing the season ranked #112 in Total Offense is unacceptable.

The overall W-L record and recruiting class rankings for Les Miles are meaningless. The ONLY thing that matters now is the 8-8 S.E.C. record and second place S.E.C. West finish the last two years. That's the definition of being MEDIOCRE and that fact can't be debated. Too bad that there are so many and varying standards of excellence on here and among the LSU fanbase though, instead of the Borg like "One mind-one mentality-win big or else" that the Bama Neandergumpnecks display.......

I'd be surprised if he didn't have Saban, Meyer, Stoops, Brown, and maybe Richt or Pelini in mind. And I don't see any of them except for maybe Pelini willing to leave their job to come to LSU. Other universities have football programs where you can win at and will pay just as good or better than LSU.

Depends on the coach. That is my problem now in that I don't have much faith in the current coach so I can't allow myself to think processes and results from the past 2 years are going to magically change.
