We are all semi mad at Chavis for the passing yardage but rewatching the game it looks like Hatcher gave up about 200 in zone coverage.
Proud of the kid and happy he is a tiger but he needs less responsibilities.

Yea, I seemed to notice myself yelling at Hatcher more than anyone else last night. He didn't really have a good game.

Would that not be the fault of Chavis? Am I missing something here?

Hatcher is certainly not very good in coverage.

If indeed he is the problem - is the team depleted to the extent that he is the only one available for now?

Or are we missing something else in our haste to find a low hanging fruit to the solution.

Not to have blind faith but c'mon this is what Chavis does and has done for a living for 30 years and he knows how to evaluate the players.

Then why continually have him in there? At some point it ceases to be Hatcher's fault and becomes the responsibility of those who keep putting him in those positions.

We are certainly not short of DBs, and if the concern is for someone who can cover as a LB, we have Baker and Barrow.

Despite what some people were saying this offseason, I can't imagine that Barrow would be a worse OLB than Hatcher.

Moreover, given that we play 4-2-5 all the time, it's not like we really need more LBs than Minter & Baker anyway, to say nothing of Tahj Jones.

Hatcher is a liability and should ride the pine!!!

Our LB crew is underwhelming.

We can't seem to recruit elite linebackers for some reason!

Sometimes when a kid practices hard and does all the right things (like switch position before senior season) and doesn't complain you might drink a little kool aide. Also before last night no one had consistently tested the middle of the field with quick passes like WV. Now Chavis should know what to expect from Hatcher.

Minter & Hatcher are certainly not elite LBs, but I think Barrow & Jones might be. It's hard to tell when we don't see them enough.

FWIW, we have gotten some good LB recruits as of late, and they should be coming through the pipeline soon.

I've got no long-term problems with Chavis, but I don't like his personnel decisions with Francois last year, and Hatcher this year.

It is Chavis who is responsible folks...he does not make adjustments well. On 3rd and long or obvious pass plays Chavis needs to replace Hatcher with a DB like Loston for example. DB's are better open field tacklers (generally) so having 2 LB's in the game is not prudent

Hatcher has always been and will continue to be a liability on the field

I understand Loston was injured but this was exactly my thoughts on the matter. LSU is deep enough to not suffer continually with the same ailments. At some point, you make personnel adjustments. Players have limitations, don't blame they player if they are continually put in a position they cannot defend.

he is terrible in pass coverage, but like so many before him, they like him, so we need to get used to #37 getting smoked in big games, just like #44 a few years ago...
