Wasn't one of the reasons he was fired at Arkansas was because he was friends with Jesse Helms from his NC State days. While at Arkansas he did an endorsement video for Helms and Bill Clinton and Sen Fulbright got pissed and forced him him out.
This story was floated quite a bit back in the day.

Arnsparger went to be UF athletic director. Deitzel went to be Army head coach. Army was the Alabama of college football back in those days.
