If he doesn’t have them back to at least pretty damn good after 3 years, then yeah he’s failing expectations.
I’ll agree with that. I thought you meant if he didn’t win big by then. Herman has shown the ability to build success, if he wins 9+ they should extend him

Yay, another Eaux ain't so bad thread!!! He's not on this overrated HC list!!
Coaches and other critical thinkers wouldn't ever project Ed as anything greater than a career DL coach .

Nope. Again I didn’t say one thing about Ed Orgeron. I think Orgeron should be doing a much better job. My post is talking about Tom Herman not Ed Orgeron. Good for you trying to twist my words. Where did I ever mention Orgeron? I think he should have the win total up. Give Tom Herman three years at the university with the most resources in the nation. You should be able to have Texas on the map in three years. Thanks for voicing your concern though.

Jimbo is one of four current coaches to have a national championship so you can't take that away from him. He also won just under 80% of his games at FSU.

Hence, highly rated.

With that said, his best years at FSU was when Jameis Winston was QBing. He was one of those players who makes coaches look good.

His best years were when his best player was there... yep. Maximized potential?
quote:

He was at FSU for 8 years.. And lost to Clemson 4 times, 3 of those losses came the past three years.
And Clemson was in the Playoffs those past 3 years.

You could say that Clemson was striving to overcome Jimbo's FSU team, and by achieving that, became elite.

I don't see that as making the case Jimbo's overrated.
quote:

He needs a Jamarcus Russel, Winston type QB to fit his offense. If he doesn't have that piece to his puzzle, I look for him to be a 3 to 4 losses a year coach at A&M. Maybe a year with 5 losses.. Depending on how long he is there and who he is able to recruit.

So- Jimbo can field an average team at will, and an elite team if he lands the right type of player- one he's been able to get already a couple times in his career. Sounds like he has a plan and knows how to reach it.

What scares me as an A&M opponent- the Aggies haven't been lacking at QB, they seem to have studs show up every year. If they were competent at other areas of the game (say, defense), they'd have been a lot better. I hope Jimbo is not able to alter that dynamic.

so Jimbo recruited an elite QB and won the NC with him?

Sounds like the stuff a quality coach does.

Lane was born on third base. But he's in the process of putting together a good stat line all on his own. Hard to deny his talent at this point.
