This is a great learning experience for all the new LSU baseball players. THis week has gone a long way in identifying who can help tis team and who can't as we move forward. CPM usually does this, but playing Texas really helps. A ton of questions are being answered for CPM and his staff. He will find 8-10 guys that he can count on day in and day out, offensively and defensively that will propel the Tigers to a post season run!

I agree but I expect that list of 8-10 he can count on to grow. You saw what happened when he put his experienced guys in after the newcomers struggled. Beck pitched well, not perfect but good enough to slow them down. Hilliard pitched great. Chris Reid came in as a pinch hitter and had 2 great at bats. I think CPM realizes he will need to rely on his experienced guys early on while the youth get up to speed but they needed to experience a series like this early on, even though it cost us 2 losses so far. This team has a great mixture of youth and experience and even though it might cost us some losses early in, it’ll help out later in the season. Anyone that thought Marceaux wouldn’t have a game like that early on was setting themselves up for disappointment. Wish it would’ve come against lesser competition that we could’ve come back on but it was definitely a learning experience for him.

I expect CPM to treat today’s game as a must win. I think Peterson will throw multiple innings especially if we have a narrow lead in the 6th.

Who have you seen so far this weekend that can help this team? I think that it has identified more that cannot help vs ones that can. We certainly found out that this isn’t the #1 team. We already knew that Hess wasn’t a Friday guy. I have been unimpressed with Marceaux all year. Hal Hugh’s and Broussard cannot hit, and I would put Reid and anyone else that can hit in both their places. Our middle relievers are not good. Maybe once it’s official that Hilliard and Walker are ready for full duty then Hess and Marceaux can move to the pen. Hilliard , Hill, and Walker look the best to me. Mathis cannot hit or come close to throwing anyone out stealing 2nd. Walker will dominate today for however long he is allowed to stay out there.
It’s time to shake the tree. This is not a “it’s just baseball “ problem. Marceaux needs more time to develope and Hess looked exactly like this last year. Hugh’s and Broussard have never been able to hit, so they need to be replaced with people that can. Their deficiencies will not change

have to put this chris reid thing to bed - he is not starting! luv reid - great person! to come back to the team!
but hughes is the best infield defensive player we have!
not sure if hughes will be moved to ss or 2b this year!
people bringing up the bats! we have lost this series - as coach says-because of the walks we have issued! there is no doubt we need to hit better - but their guy pitched lights out in the first game. i do not think u can win giving up 10 walks.
as i said earlier - u cannot figure out cuts - because you do not know how much reid counted against the 11.7 & he might have come back - not counting!

Wish I could give you 100 up votes. It's discouraging it's come this far. I hope they run the table and all those you mention have a miracle turn around but although its early, the play looks bleak for that to happen. But you seem to have hit on the nose.

It’s amazing how people can watch how slow of a start the basketball team had this year and say the things they do. (Not to mention baseball every damn year)

nah. you put way too much stock in one series.

who's "we". hess is far from being done.

we are glad you are not the coach.

you've seen very little of our final middle relievers. PM has been trying to see who he can rely on in the pen and is hoping to find one or more that can give us quality innings in the future.

damn you flat out crazy man.

look, the team has layed an egg in Austin. in the long run, it will likely HELP this team grow. our other wins were too easy. guys have to KNOW they need to improve. also, PM had to promise some of these new players they would get a fair shot to start; that's normal. and, he's giving it to them; it's up to them to hold the position down or PM will make some moves. what you may not understand is how "fluid" baseball is; some great players look like shite on some nights and some mediocre players look like stars on some nights.

Mainieri has a long record of finding the right line-ups. give him time. also, our pitchers control will come around; I think our staff is careful not to overwork them before the season starts and they need some time.

lastly, baseball really is a game that requires skill sets that take awhile to get back to norm. MLB players spend 6 or more weeks in spring training and play quite a few practice games before starting their season yet still the first couple of weeks are "shaky with the pitchers". if you view things this way you will realize the difference between baseball and football and begin to enjoy the sport more.

Well, we'll learn to play in cold weather today. 44 with 15 mph north wind. Feels like 41.

After today they will have to really rethink the pitching situation. They have arms and most will be better next week than this one. After 1-4 in the lineup, it is a crapshoot. Beloso may have to stay there until he gets the strike zone figured out. Best hitter in Louisiana last year in high school. Garza is disappointing us and so is Bianco. Giacommo(sp.) seems to get it! Reid needs to play more, not saying he is long term answer. Anxious to see what Coach and his staff does.
