I'm glad that I happened upon TigerDroppings! Unfortunately, George Gaylen Rice passed away in his sleep December 26 at his home in Sealy, TX. He was 66 y/o. He was born and raised in Liberty, Mississippi, but graduated from Istrouma HS. 1st team All American in 1965 at LSU. 1st round choice of Chicago Bears, but instead signed in 3rd round w/Houston Oilers and played 4 years as DT and coached with Bum Philips for 1 year. George worked for Diamond Offshore Drilling in Houston for 32 years until he passed away Sunday. He enjoyed hunting and sporting clays. He will be missed for sure - his memorial service is today.

Wasn’t a “classic” tackle. George couldn’t reach him, so he whipped his tree stump right leg out and took out Little above the knees. Happened right in front of us and Little went face down with his legs straight out behind him.

Rice was very large for that time, and the LSU equipment guys would tell the other players that they got the same one-size-fits-all jock as George Rice – guess it made the small guys feel better.
