As if 1-9-12 wasn't enough for this year?

The Peach was fairly prestigious. Then they let "ChikFilA" buy the rights. Now it sounds like a 3rd tier bowl. Pretty sure the payout for the ChikFilA is a good bit higher than the Gator bowl though, so that makes it better. The perception nationally may not agree with that though.

ETA: It is higher than the Outback bowl as well. I wish they still had the "Peach" bowl, "Tangerine" bowl, etc.

ChickFilA is an excellent sponser for their bowl game. And they spend a lot of money on the conference. This has allowed the ChickFilA Bowl to pay its participants more money.

The Gator Bowl is sponsered by Taxslayer.com. They have lost much prestige over the past 10 years.

The Gator Bowl isn't prestigious because their name hasn't been bought out yet.

Until it's fully the Taxslayer.com Bowl, it can never compete.

The Gator Bowl actually pays out more for the SEC this year. bullshite that Miss St. gets that over LSU.

Chick-fil-A
Atlanta, GA
$3,967,500 ACC; $2,932,500 SEC 12/31/12
7:30pm
ESPN ACC #2
vs.
SEC #5 Clemson (10-2)
vs.
LSU (10-2)

Gator
Jacksonville, FL
$3,500,000 1/1/13
12:00pm
ESPN-2 Big 10 #4 or #5
vs.
SEC #6 Northwestern (9-3)
vs.
Mississippi State (8-4)

The Peach Bowl pays the ACC #2 $3.9 million, and the SEC #5 gets $2.9 million. The Gator Bowl pays both teams $3.5 million.

The difference is $600,000. Divided 15 ways, that means Miss St. gets $80,000 more than LSU.

I hate these corporate sponsor name bowls. To me it cheapens the whole enterprise. I always liked to associate the name of the bowl with the place it was played - Peach - ATL, GA, for instance. Orange - Miami, FL. Cotton and Bluebonnet and Alamo bowls - TX. Sugar - NOLA. Music City - Nashville, TN. But Tax Slayer Bowl? Chick-Fil-A Bowl?? Corporate sponsors are so greedy that most won't even share the traditional name of the bowl in the first place. At least the AllState Sugar still lets the word "Sugar" remain.

Why does who played there in the past matter at all?

Since the Gator Bowl is played on New Years Day and is not named solely for a corporate sponsor, it's a better bowl.
