How about we acknowledge that the problem of violence in the black community doesn't excuse poor policing. I can acknowledge that there are thugs in the hood while also acknowledging that there are some thugs in blue. They can both be problems.

One problem is exponentially far greater than the other....and at the heart of the overall problem. frick...who wouldn't have a quick trigger given today's environment. The NFL taking a knee to protest police brutality is like having an oncologist check out the pimple on your arse when the rest of your body is eat up with cancer.

Truth is what it is. I cannot do anything to make it appear otherwise. My being is a collection of things, not just any one of them. Black nationalist project themselves from their skin-tones and base everything around them upon how they perceive it affects them as a black. This promotes a falsehood that does nothing to contribute to bringing people together based upon how they are very much alike in all of the other areas of their personhood. Screw skin-tone. It does not deserve the attention being given to it. Fournette is projecting from the skin-tone perspective and not helping his followers to get past their skin-tone mental imprisonment. Do you identify yourself as who you are, or what color your skin is? It is your choice.

Good post, but I have a couple of points...

Last thing first, you mention:
quote:

The responses to this post will be far too predictable. People tend to fall into one of three categories. I will respond and identify the clearly identifiable categories. If one has had any concern or observation about the matter, it will be easily discernible which category applies. Unfortunately the up or down vote only allows two categories. This being Louisiana, I predict an 80 -20 or bigger split. If you are relatively conscious you know on which side the 80% will fall.

That fact is that this is the 7th page of a thread that many on a football board will simply be too uncomfortable to respond to. I think your responses will be skewed to those who are either more thoughtful about the problem, or those who are just too emotionally involved.
But here:
quote:

There are far too many on here who have no empathy toward the complaints of African Americans, despite overwhelming historical evidence and contemporary video and statistical evidence that support the African American complaints. The question becomes, why is that? The obvious answer would be that they are racists and actually encourage maltreatment of African Americans.

...while the obvious answer may be that they are racists and have malice in their hearts, I don't think that really represents the majority of why so many people show/feel no empathy. I think the overwhelming reason is that it would hurt too much, and they would rather avoid that pain. To understand the plight of African Americans that is being protested by NFL players, you would have to face some ugly truths about a country we are told you must blindly support to be a 'patriot' - no matter what. The irony is that, since the beginning, criticism of the country was seen as patriotic. We must be constantly vigilant to injustices that threaten what we stand for. But too many people take criticism of our country as a hatred, or at least a rejection of it. They want to believe that they exist in a perfect society so they can go about their lives consuming goods and services to satisfy their desires. Any interruption of that interrupts their satisfaction, and they don't want to feel dissatisfied. Therefore, other people's problems are just that, and they don't want those problems bleeding over into their comfortable lives making them uncomfortable.

In short, I would say that the MAIN reason there is so little empathy for other people's injustices is:

pleasure principle

the instinctive drive to seek pleasure and avoid pain, expressed by the id as a basic motivating force that reduces psychic tension.
