Les is on a one year lease.

There are too many schools looking for coaches and LSU wanted to ensure that they were able to get a top coach but with so much competition the possibility of that was limited.

This could be a "we'll give you one more year, if you resign after next year" win/win for both parties

Didn't want to lose the recruiting class

Maybe Jimbo said "talk to me next year"

Keeping Miles could simply be damage control

Maybe they wanted to give Herman one more to see what he is all about before hiring him

I have never claimed to have sources and this is simply my opinion but these could be very real possibilities.

Stupid question but just being sure. So next year is his last year right? As far as the contract

It is more likely Miles gets an extension than he gives up money he is entitled to under the existing contract by retiring. Why would he give up 13 million dollars?

LSU really fumbled this. Welcome to mediocrity, Tiger Nation.
