I can only speak for the process to get an Air Force aircraft for a flyby.

The requesting organization (in this case, LSU Athletic Department) would have to work with Air Force Public Affairs to get an approved aerial event. The request is pretty simple and for an event such as a football game seen by 90,000+ in the stands and more on TV there should be no issue getting it approved. The request can also ask that the aircraft be piloted by graduates or others with ties to the requesting organization. Once approved, any unit that meets the requested details can accept it. Here's a link to the website to create the request:

There's also a means to work it from the other direction (i.e. the Air Force requesting it). I tried to do that a few years ago to get a B-52 flyby of the LSU salutes ceremony in the morning of the game closest to Veterans' Day and after landing back at Barksdale drive down to attend the game that night. Got it approved by the AF, but the 2nd Bomb Wing Maintenance Group said they couldn't generate the sortie, so it fell apart.

I wasn't at the game so I don't know if the pilots were introduced during a timeout after the game started but I can CONFIRM that one of the pilots was, in fact, an LSU graduate. He was my frat brother. Graduating class of 2002.

Won't happen though.

For flyovers at Bama and Florida, the pilots are usually graduates. I never noticed that here. Anyone know how to make that happen?

Scott Booth was a pilot in the flyover today

He is an alum of LSU as well as a Lamda Chi

Air Force regulations would prevent them doing full AB. By regulation, flyby passes have to be done in a clean configuration (gear and flaps up), max airspeed of 300 knots, minimum altitude of 1000 feet above ground, and bombers have to have bomb doors closed.

Don't forget the A-10's out of Barksdale as well. However, getting approval for a dissimilar aircraft flyby is hard to obtain. Dissimilar formations usually take special approval.

We never had a lot of requests for a A-10 Flybys....
