Skenes already hit 99 and Shores 98...so yes. Taylor I think has topped out at 97.
I think Shores can be a significant piece this year.

When’s the last time we had multiple hit 100. Don’t think i can name a year honestly

Just my opinion, but I am most impressed by Skenes out of the entire roster.
This dude looks like we plucked him straight from the Yankees.
The thought of not having him here and instead him ending up at Arkansas or wherever is enough to drive me to drink.

Taylor has more to prove for me to consider him a starter. It's much easier to control your energy during the summer than it is at Alex Box or College Station or Swayze or Charles Schwab. I just don't see his baseline being there yet. And, quite frankly, I kind of want to see him just blow it out for an inning as a closer 1-2 times per week. He's a guy that I want to get a look to bury teams in the 8th and/or 9th. No harm in extending him during the summer and fall at all, though.
ETA: Taylor, to me, is built like a closer, mentally and physically. Let Wes just mold him into that. Again, really just my opinion. We can groom Moffet and Shores along the way, too, even use a lefty against heavy LHH lineups late.

We haven’t had anyone hit 100. Up until about 10 years ago, It was extremely rare in the pros. Now it’s happening more and more to the point where it’s leaking down into college. Those guys would never have made it to college before. The understanding of the motion and power has come a long way since technology has been brought into the mix with ground pressure reading, trackman, etc. and understanding how to get the most out of an arm with the least chance of injury. Pretty cool times.
ETA: nb4 some grandpa comes in and mentions McDonald. Ben did not throw 100 y’all.

Gonna be interesting how we handle the arms, having a guy blowing it by at 100 at closer seems like it’ll be an elite opportunity as well

I could see Taylor as the closer.
I could see Shores there as well. Shores can be a starter or a closer.
97-98 mph fastball to go along with an 87-90 mph change and 83-84 mph slider with that tilt coming at you?
Good luck.

Jay will definitely look at Shores for the back end. He loved Tall Paul in that role.
ETA: I think Shores is in the plan for a weekend starter...but next year. Not this year if Skenes, Hurd, and Floyd are who we think they are.

Yeah...the arms on these kids is crazy.
When I was playing at MSU in '93 Jay Powell had the reputation as one of the best fastball pitchers in the country, and he was 88-89 mph.

Taylor or Shores seem like your ideal candidates.
Don’t know who you’d want though, both seem like they can be expanded for 2 late innings as well that’s why it makes this spot so interesting

Taylor has earned the look he’s getting and he’s done well so far. Shores and Moffett could definitely close until it’s time for them to step up and extend. But the game is changing and closers aren’t what they used to be. Coaches are using pitchers differently these days where it’s about where you are in the order and matchups inning be damned. But Shores, Moffett, little combining on the backend together is a strong start.

I keep forgetting about Little. I projected Noot and Little being difference makers.

To me a closer has to have great control. Moffett's outing scared me yesterday. He looked like a freshman.
Rather have someone with more experience in a true closer role.

We haven’t even seen Little this fall, he wasn’t dressed today. Can see him in long reliever role honestly. Lefty with big breaking ball out the pen is always an asset

Meh. Closer is great for freshmen. Come in all fired up and let loose for 10 pitches. Hess, Matty Ice… great freshman closers for that reason. Control wasn’t really part of it. The pressure is on the offense and you want a bulldog who’s aggressive. At least that’s how we used to think of the role. Like I said, things are changing.

With as explosive as offenses have become, and I say explosive in the sense that a walk and a bloop and a blast/gapper is really common, you better have a dude on the back end. Or, honestly, a couple of dudes. The pressure is not as much on the offense anymore. Good pitching will always beat good hitting, but the pressure part on the back end is getting tricky. Hitters are way more schooled now.

Did a poster mention Fontenot on the staff? He gone huh?
Great info y’all. Thanks so much

I disagree. The mentality of a bulldog is great, but you can't come in and walk guys in the 9th.
Control is a must to be a good closer IMO.

Little is right handed.
Sorry...misread your post. Little AND a lefty out of the pen.
