No matter what Les Miles does, he will always be compared to Nick Saban.
And he will always be known as the LSU coach whose dream job was at Mich and not at LSU
Posted on 1/31/10 at 1:06 pm to lsusa
while less miles i got caught up in winning with sabans disaplined players and had success with play calling because of talent allready developed and had a defencive coach that is a great one at the time he wads with lsu. What less is missing now is coaches who know how to win and develope players. Its not the head coach who wins or loses its the oc and dc that win games, and with less sticking with our oc he reminds me of jim mora when he was with the saints and everyone called for a new oc and he stuburnly kept saying no....it cost him his job!

Why does LSU squeak by the crappy teams and lose to the top 25 teams?
Look, if your opinion is that LSU year in and year out is the most talented team in college football, please give me some of what you are smoking cause after reading the rant awhile I want to leave reality like some of you.
LSU has beaten Top 25 team and LSU has loss to Top 25 teams in Miles' career. Every coach LSU has EVER had has done the same including Nick with his 0-3 top 25 record in 04. If happens and you can either get over or not.
Les is here 2 more yrs at least. You can piss and moan bout it or you can support him cause he is the LSU coach whether you like it or not. I will support him as the LSU coach as I support the LSU football team and others can do as they please.

Well, during the Ole Miss and Penn State games our embarrassing relative "came out of the closet" and the whole college football world saw it. Tiger fans are not so delusional as to believe their team will never loose. It is the way you loose or win against the ULL'S, Tulanes, and LA TECHS of the world that has the Tiger Fan Base in arms.
THIS!!

I only hope that whoever the new hire is will:
*Win or compete in the SEC Championship every year.
*Have no less than a top 3 Recruiting Class every year
*Win a National Championship every 2 or 3 years
*Speak so articulantly that you would think he is a master of all languages.
*Never, and I mean NEVER, have a single game/clock management issue in any game
*NEVER lose to Nick Saban
*Play highly touted freshman no matter what they do in practice
*Hire and keep the top coordinators in the country and both the Offense and Defense ranked no lower than 5th in the country.
*Develop every player to achive their full potential which is perfect execution on every play.
*Demand that if any penalties for offsides, false starts, personal fouls should ever happen with any player they will be scolded and benched for the remainder of the game.
*Eliminate cyclical down years. The program will compete continually at a National level and any bowl game other than a BCS game will be considered a failure.

I support Miles, just don't have much faith in him. But as long as he is here I will support him. You can "support" the coach and see things realistically

I said specifically the teams where LSU has a huge advantage in talent which is the teams that LSU won in the past 2 years. LSU is never ready to play against the crappy teams and we don't put teams away like other schools that are supposedly top 15 programs. Also, we only beat 1 top 25 team in the past 2 years.
My loyalty to LSU and Les Miles are not one in the same.

Interesting thread.
Saban had a strong impact on the program and folk know that and so they don't just judge him on the win-loss record. Why? Because Saban was obsessed with building a complete program, from A-Z.
We've seen Miles win a bunch of games and a conference title in addition to a national title. Personality wise, Miles doesn't appear to have that same manic obsession that Saban appeared to have.
I think people may have been expecting Miles to put his finger prints on the program.

Les at LSU has had a better record and program than Saban at LSU in five years.
Saban at Bama in the first three years has shown to have a better program/record than Les at LSU in the first three years.
Trying to project Saban as a complete mistake free god at LSU and Les as a bumbling idiot is pure idiocy and an attempt to rewrite history.

He did well and won a NC his first 3 years. He had incredible talent left over from the former regime. FACT.
He's underperformed and mismanaged the program and the talent his last 2 years. FACT.
He's a bumbling idiot on camera. FACT.
He's a good person and loyal to LSU. FACT
He's an average to slightly above average coach. FACT.
He is not feared around the SEC nor he is considered for other high profile coaching jobs. FACT.
He's going to be at LSU another year if he improves, but he'll be gone if he doesn't. FACT.

quote:ULL, La Tech, Arizona and Tulane (in 2006). You would be more credible if you refined your argument to say that in the last 2 years he has not dominated another lesser opponent. He had plenty of instances where he did it early in his career at LSU. Miles has lost intensity, fire, senior leadership, and good asst. coaching and that is why he has been failing.
Again, tell me 1 game (outside of GT) that Miles played against a lesser talented team and whipped the shite out of them as LSU should do against most of the teams on the schedule?

I'm sorry but I can't stand it when freaking Miles gets credit for the 2007 championship...For the last time, THOSE WE ALMOST ALL SABAN'S RECRUITS...AND WE GOT LUCKY TO EVEN BE THERE! My God when are we gonna stop sympathizing with the man who has made the program the laughing stock of D-1 on numerous occasions. I'm tired of these no-namers like ULL and La Tech even thinking they have a chance against us. That's what the program has come to. I hate going to every game and not being confident in the team I love. Not only is he a bonehead on the field, but his off the field antics are becoming old very quickly. I mean seriously any Orgeon State fan will tell you how horrible Crowton is, yet Les backs him up like he's family...When is this idiocracy going to end? My hope is that Les would simply learn from his mistakes and become a better coach to save our school from losing millions, but only time will tell. I think his first move should have been to fire Crowton so he's already taken a step backwards. Hopefullt our upcoming talent makes up for stupidity.

What makes you think things will improve?
More game-time experience at QB, FB, and the O-line, as well as new running backs with different skill sets. Scott wasn't a very good pass catcher for a starter.
Russell finished his third season at LSU with 60% completion, 2443 yards, 15 TDs and 9 ints.
Jefferson finished his second year with 2166 yards, 61.5% completion, 17 TDs and 7 ints without a great running game.
