No, this poster's point is valid. You're taught that you don't step off the bag until the pitcher is on the rubber, for this very reason. Until he steps on the rubber, there are no restrictions on what he can do and you're at a decided disadvantage.

Ever since this happened, I've thought that they play should be illegal. If we can ratify the infield fly rule to prevent ridiculous outs, surely it could be done to prevent such a childish maneuver.

DJ shouldn't have been off the bag, I don't believe anyone is saying otherwise.

However, saying it is his fault when he clearly was safe and the umpire clearly wasn't paying attention is asinine. That would be like saying it is your fault if you walk out the door and get shot in the face. If you would have just stayed inside...
