I have some friends that drive back and forth to Atlanta from here a good bit and they suggested taking I59 to I20 because of the construction on I85 right before Atlanta. They've said traffic has been pretty rough there. Can anybody confirm this. Google maps doesn't have it adding too much time.

This site was mentioned earlier in the thread, it has a lot of helpful info.

Georgia-Navigator

It looks like most fo the construction on 85 will be at night.

Coming from LA....take I-85 through the heart of Atlanta and stay on I-85 towards South Carolina outside the perimeter (I-285), then take Hwy 316 straight into Athens....stay off Hwy 78 and other back roads....2 lane speed traps.

Dont worry bout speed traps. It was the end of the month so they were trying to make their quota. Crank it up to 90 put it on cruise and just ride. (Unreal a cop gave a ticket for 8 over on a highway. Must have been a real dick)

I would stick to I-10, 65, 85 to Atlanta. It's much faster than going up to I-20, even with the construction on 85 in Georgia.

Also, watch your speed when you get onto 316 from I-85. I take that exit just about every day and there are usually some pigs set up on the first few miles of 316.

I'm guessing most of you don't even know what constitutes a "speed trap". Is it a trap whenever you see 2 or more police cars sitting together?

And watch out for the Troopers on the East side of Birmingham. There are usually hanging out between exits 140 and 168 towards Talladega on I-20 East

Also between Eutaw Exit 40 on I 20 and Ex 71 near Tuscaloosa. Usually a state trooper right around the Fosters and Knoxville exit also some local county police hang out there too. Usually see a bunch of GHP right around the AL/GA state line area

The Braves have a home game at 4:10, Might catch a little traffic going home

okay, fill us in porky. it certainly could be a) depending on when the cars come into visibility and b) sudden changes in speed limit (e.g. Dothan, Al, where they set up right where it goes from 55 to 45)

braves will be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, so no worries there, likely

You should be fine on 85, but when in ATL, always use 285 over 75 or 85 when you can.

If you are arriving Friday evening, you don't want to go through Atlanta after 3:00 PM.
