there's a lot worse behavior and annoyances in tiger stadium than fans standing. those that bring young children that don't give a hoot about the game and are constantly going to the bathroom, concession stand, etc and walking right in front of you as an example. those that never stop cussing and have to use the f word every 10 sec's when there are young children close enough to hear it, etc. ya just gotta go with the flow. ya can't blame those kids and i have no problem in asking the cusser nicely to clean it up a little due to the kids. but a big annoyance to me is when some fat sob behind me rudely yells sit down up front. if i'm the only one standing, fine. but if the people in front of me are standing, i ain't movin'. i paid for my ticket too damnit. now if someone comes up and asks me nicely to sit down, i'll do it if he will ask the people in front too.

So far from all the 1000's of times I've read about this subject on TigerDroppings, the one thing I think I can say is that 99.9% of the people that choose to stand are doing so to be assholes. And then they like to mask it in the name of "well I'm just a hardcore enthusiastic fan and you're not".
It's not about that at all. The reality is it's all about ego and pride of having somebody behind you tell you or ask you to do something you don't want to do.

i guess i'm in that .1% because i leave the a-hole part of my personality at home when i go to a game.
i have never once had a problem with this issue and i'm pretty sure i know why; i have never asked anyone to sit down before, much less demanded it. i think the down in front people are the assholes. if they are handicapped, they should be in the handicapped section. if not, they can get off their damn arse and stand up too.

Really...this conservation is still going on.

I think that this describes a few folks, including those who are more interested in drinking than in watching football. More frequently, I think, it's that people aren't aware that they are obstructing someone else's view, and when asked to stop doing so (too often in a less than friendly fashion) they then become confrontational rather than cooperative. At a recent game, the guy in front of me stood for the kickoff (as did everyone) and then kept standing for the next 10 or 15 minutes.I politely suggested that I would stand with him in key situations or when an exciting play unfolded, if he would sit when there was nothing special going on. He agreed that was a fair deal, and sat down (until a key defensive 3rd down a few minutes later, when we were both standing and yelling our heads off).

I'm going to start standing in church. Just so I can reply to the complainers behind me with, "I LOVE JESUS MORE THAN YOU DO!"

that's why I am 40 and go to the freakin student section to stand - for old assholes or heauxmeauxs that would rather talk about the stock market. Screw those son of a bitches....

as a father of four, i teach my children that they should always be considerate of their "fellow man" and their actions should never impede on other's. i doubt we'll ever see a reversal of this "me first" mentatlity but maybe through parenting, we can at least slow it down...
to me, it's a common sense thing about when to stand / sit...in my opinion, there are critical situations in some games where it is appropriate to stand...those who stand during the entire game or most of the game are apparently not tuned in to proper social etiquette and/or don't give a damn about anyone else... i.e. "me first"

Did you see the empty seats when the Tigers were losing. Used to be tons of em.
Folks act like a full, loud stadium makes the Tigers win. Fact is usually the Tigers winning is what makes a full, loud stadium.
People really overplay their roles as fans. That said, enjoy your time, stand if you want, yell for the team, but please be respectful of the fellow fans around you.
Cue the "Ill do what I want, talk how I want, cuss all I want, spill my bourbon anywhere I want, its my GD ticket, the high rollers have ruined Tiger Stadium" crowd.
Very well said..

The way I view it is that if someone is standing in front of me at Tiger Stadium, that's my problem, not his.
There are few limited circumstances where I would ever agree that its impolite to stand:
If they person behind you is handicapped, injured, or pregnant to where they physically cannot stand, or if the person behind you is so old that they physically cannot stand. Then, and only then, do I think the person in front should sit down.
I stand up for most of the game and no one behind me has a problem. A few seasons ago, one of the ladies behind me was pregnant, so I adjusted for that season.
But these circumstances are few and far between. Most of the time its a 35 year old fun vacuum that's doing the bitching. Thats when you politely turn around and explain to them that its not your problem.

I agree with 99.9%. Except that I think 99.9% of the people that bitch about something this stupid are just living a miserable existence and need to get over it.

At a key point in the game, I'll stand and scream like many others do. However, some fans need to recognize that there are older fans in the stadium who are unable to stand for the entire game. They paid to see the Tigers, not your backside. The same holds true for children or a shorter adult.
I'm 6'-5" and 295#. If the person in front of me stands, I'm standing too - I wanna see the game. But when this happens, I can guarantee that more often than not, the person behind me can't see the play, even if they do stand up.
If I stand for the entire game, I ruin it for someone behind me.

The guy tapped me on the shoulder and said that he'd paid good money for his ticket and wanted to see the game.
You should have told that if he would have paid a little more, he may have gotten the row in front of you and this wouldn't be an issue. Tough shite.

Agree, but that makes up probably less than 2% of total fans

My wife is 4'11 and the guy in front of us is 6'3''. She can see just fine when both are standing. It isn't an issue.

she must be standing on her seat

The rise between rows is less than 16", isn't it?

It's probably close to that.
If she stared directly at the back of his head, then she wouldn't see, but she just tilts her head and looks past it.
It really isn't an issue.
Maybe if Shaq stood in front of her, it would block her view, but I'd be willing to sacrifice it for the opportunity to sit with Shaq for a whole game.
