Donating to TAF(Best way to maximize points)

Hey all, I graduated from LSU last year and managed to get a few tickets from my friends this year for games. I want to try to get my own tickets and this means donating to TAF I presume.
I have limited funds, and wanted to make the most bang for my buck so I wanted to make sure I made a 2011 contribution and then a 2012 contribution just to try at least get the process started in this fiscal year. I have about $300 to donate today to TAF.
My Question to the Rant is with my limited funds, what is the best way to allocate my donations to maximize my points when dealing with bonus points, philanthropic points, and the like.
Thank You in advance and

Donate $100 a year to the gold fund and then when you can, donate more. There's not much difference in a $300 donation to $100. The next cut-off is $5000.

Just donate $100, unless you are already a member which someone correct me if I'm wrong but you cant get any more points unless its over $1000 you donate.

Actually you want to minimize your points

Donate $110 per year, minimum. The extra $10 give you a tiny bump over the people that are just giving $100 per year.
When you start making more money, try to give $5000 one year and that will give you a big bump.

I think the way it works is you get decimal points until you reach $1000, at which point it adds up to 2 points. Could be wrong.

Here's the TRUE answer:
1. Make a $100 donation TODAY --- specify that it is for 2011 membership.
2. After January 1, 2012 make a second $100 donation and specify that it is for 2012 membership.
3. Make the additional $100 donation to a TAF fundraiser that pays 2 pts/$1000 donatated ---- do so before 3/31/2012 to get credit in the 2012 season ticket selection.
If you have not donated anything to this point -- I would not recommend signing up for the waiting list --- you'll be pissing away $10 --- but you can do that too --- sign up for the season ticket waiting list and pay $10 per year to be on the list. IF there are away games that they do not sell out the full allotment to season ticket holders you may have the opportunity to purchase tickets prior to sales to the general public.
I got that opportunity for the UNC game to open last season and bought 4 through LSU in advance.... good seats too. But none were available for the Oregon game this season .... it depends on season ticket holder requests.

I agree. If he just gives 100 for 2011 and another 100 for 2012, joining the waiting list is pointless. He's not getting a call for 2012 season tix.
That said, it's only $10...and for someone that's not familiar with the process, it is a good idea to learn how the waiting list works, etc, so it's probably good "practice" for future years. Get into the habit of joining the waiting list each year, and at some point in the future you will get a call.

Agreed -- but I was focused on his "limited funds" to contribute comment.
So I gave him the "formula" for maximizing his points with ONLY $300 to donate total.
Another bit of advise I'd give..... find out if the company you work for matches charitable contributions.... if so... make sure you donate through them or send in the appropriate forms.... that'll double your points on the philanthropic side of things too.
Then if at some point you happen to find some money to donate a wad to TAF --- you can get the bonus points associated with a $5000 donation with "only" $2500 out of your own pocket.

Thank you for all the input, for the 2011 membership, do I just donate to one of the programs or is there a specific place I have to put the money?

Get on the TAF web site --- find the "Join TAF" and "donate now" .... you want to "Joing TAF" for 2011 --- and this being the last day of the year may not be available on-line --- but if you can.... do it and you'll get 3 bonus points for 2011.
If you just donate to any program if will be philanthropic.
I'm pretty sure the bonus points are for membership -- but all contributions count so you can probably just donate to any program you want.
Here's an idea.... if they still have the Tiger Walk brick program... .donate your 2011 $100 there -- you'll get the $100 donation points, the 3 bonus points and your name on a brick at Mike's cage.
Hope all that helps.

Done all that for over 10 years and Priority is good enough to get BCSNC tickets
My actually ranking has gone from below 1,000 to right above 1,500 despite giving more $ every year.
Somewhere since the 2007 BCSNC, we have a group of BIG $$ dropping in to jump in priority.
However, the rankings only matter if you can jump below 750, which is the level to go from 2 to 4 bowl and away tickets. Not sure but it may take a $20k philanthropic donation??

I've been considering making the $5k donation for a few years now, I just hate to do it, and not jump into the category where I can basically get 2 tickets to anything I want.
I've just been buying them on the resale market if I want to go that bad.
I currently have 32.36 points, priority ranking of 4,893. If I would have made that $5k donation in time to be applied toward BCS tickets, how close would that have gotten me to the cutoff?

5k would have given you 52 points and you would have made the cut for 2 tix

I thought a $5k donation was only worth 7 points?
Posted on 12/31/11 at 12:45 pm to DaBeerz
??
Given plenty and never got many points over the years
Where is the link to how it definitely works/
I recall asking abt the 5k and it was lower then 10 abt 2 years ago.
Been giving to TAF for over 12 years and ranking is lower??

Look on Taf website, spells it out for you
5k donation outside of your required seat donation nets you 20 pts per year. My dad has been doing it for years
7 bonus
3 yearly
2 per thousand = 10

I've never donated $5K -- but how would you get 7 bonus points AND 3 bonus points?
I thought it was 1 bonus point for renewing membership at <$100.
3 bonus points for renewing membership at $100 - $4999
7 bonus points for $5000+ ---- on a sliding scale on up ---- meaning if you give $9000 --- you'd get more bonus points than 7 but not as many as a donor at the next level up == which is $10K, I believe.
Between $10K and $25K -- same thing --- sliding scale of bonus points..... and so on.
Doesn't really impact me --- because I don't see donating $5K in the near future...

Thanks again for all the help with this, I donated $100 for a 2011 Gold Membership. If my math is right, I should have 3.1 points whenever the donation goes through.
3 Bonus Points for donating $100 or more
.1 points for the $100 in the fund
Is that correct?
