The basketball games show EXACTLY how "passionate" the LSU fan base as a whole is.

LSU is primarily a bandwagoning, frontrunning fan base. If you ain't winning, they ain't going. They don't care about the team or the kids, they just want to be seen at the "big" event in town.

Let the baseball team be halfway through the SEC at .500. There won't be a swinging dick in the Box , either.

Look between the 40s at a football game. It'll be full for Alabama, but it sure as hell won't be against Louisiana Tech.

1. game day experience will never be the height that it is for football, for basketball.

2. the in-arena experience COULD be high energy excitement, but only if the team is great, well coached, fun to watch and successful even against UK.

3. Truth be told, the rivals basketball rating for Louisiana high school basketball is NOT in the same high range that both baseball and football for Louisiana high school players.
SO... the talent level is not there in basketball. Every year, there may be one or two blue chip LA. guys. Currently LSU is not getting those to stay at home.
So you would need something else: OOS recruiting. Look at Calipari. He is not just beating Patino/Louisville for the best of Kentucky players. Calipari is getting the best NATIONALLY.
Patino recruits North Jersey and NYC, and so does Calipari.
Does LSU have a presence in major northern recruiting, like Chicago, NYC, southern Ohio, Cleveland metro area, and north Jersey? No.
The possible regional players from Texas? Nope. They are going to Tex and Kansas.

So... I dont expect to see routine year in year out ELITE EIGHT teams from LSU in basketball, although I do expect to see LSU in the top ten in football and often in a BCS game, either SEC champ in the Sugar or a BCS champ game, a couple of times in a decade and in the College World Series many times in a decade.

Jesus we have some negative fans. Our fans (for football) are among the most passionate fans in the country, ask someone from just about any other school and they will tell you, even for the crappy games our fans are better than most

LSU has the number 2,3,4 highest attended regular season basketball games of all time. Put 60,000 in the superdome 3 straight years. There once was a time that LSU basketball was more relevant nationally than football. If we won regularly and played a more up tempo exciting brand of basketball the PMAC would fill.

Yea like the Lakers with Magic and when they 3peted, the Bulls with Jordan. Kentucky the last 5 years. LSU with the Pistol. The Clippers this year are exciting and vastly improved, probably 1000 other examples.

But no you can't win and play exciting basketball...

Oh my bad I guess 40 minutes of hell wasnt up tempo....that got arky 15 straight post seasons (only 2 of which were NIT) and a championship. His protoge turned MIzzou around running the same principles. Thats just two off the top of my head in the collegiate game.

ETA Bruce Pearl is another guy....Pearl would be the perfect guy to bring to LSU to get fan support if trent doesnt have us turned around by the time Pearls penalties are gone...
