but he's probably too valuable to put him through that.

He's certainly no more valuable than Kevin Faulk or Dominic Davis, who both returned punts as starting TBs. Or Eddie Kennison for that matter. And honestly, how many people actually get hurt returning kicks? It looks more dangerous than it actually is.

I wish I could bump the thread from last year where I said shep should be returning punts and was CRUCIFIED on here

This was one of the things you and I agreed on last year. Of course, my reasoning was why "protect" your 3rd string QB? It seemed retarded. Back then, though, everybody was convinced he was 2nd string and would eventually take over for JJ.

I rarely come on and say "book it" and yada yada, but here, trust me...RS will be returning punts.

I think you're likely right, but how can you say this so definitively? Btw, I think Shep's is likely our best punt returner, but if he's even close to being the best, I think Les has to give him the benefit of the doubt to appease the fans, but more importantly Shep himself.

And though this year was kind of a cluster-frick trying to find ways of getting him in the game, if we can devote time to developing a specific role for him getting carries like Harvin did, catching passes out of the backfield and in the slot, any kind of quick passes to get the ball in his hands quickly and let him try to beat the defender one on one, AND get involved in the return game, then the clusterfrick that was last year might have actually been worth it for both LSU's offense and Shep.

A versatile guy with his speed and moves who can line up all over the field and do different things and return kicks would be infinitely more valuable to the NFL than a 6'0" spread-option QB with a very below average arm(by NFL standards). If he had stayed at QB for 4 years, he would most likely have been a mid round project pick, who somebody would take a flyer on hoping to turn him into a slot WR like that white dude from the Patriots. And he would be extremely far behind in his progression.

was extremely disappointed in the way JJ played all year. he didnt play bad, he just didnt live up to the hype. Russell Shepard has so much talent. he is electric. he has a swagger that JJ is missing, I would love to see him start. he would totally change the teams identity

You obviously have never seen him throw the ball. He's like Nuke Laloosh.

I think there were more than 1, actually. I might have even started one myself. But I do remember that it was me, you, and a couple more against the rest of the board. Some people were just retarded, but in fairness to the ones who weren't, they did assume he was going to be a big part of the offense. In hindsight, I can't imagine anyone logically saying he shouldn't have at least been given the shot to return kicks(if Trindon was going to be our PR). This Ron Brooks returning kicks is kinda baffling. He's a good athlete, but doesn't seem any better than 7-8 other guys we could put back there. And Keiland returning kicks was even crazier.

mainly back there to block for Trindon, and at least provide a serviceable return if the kick didn't go to him. Although Brooks had a real nice return in the spring game.

This is one of those questions where the answer should be Yes, but since he is already to valuable with the ball in his hands its even less likely he will get that job, I just want the coaching staff to decide what he is going to do, is he a QB is he a RB, WR, make a decision so he can learn an actually skill set

I'm not saying he can't be decent or even good, but surely there are more dynamic guys we can put back there. Trindon flipped the field so many clutch times. Without his return against Georgia, we don't win. And without his return against Penn State, we don't even have any chance of winning on that last drive.

I wonder about John Williams. That dude is so intriguing to me. Everything I read about him during his recruitment got me super excited. And I don't believe he's yet to step on the field, has he? What gives? Maybe he is actually the one legitimate example the haters talk about when they refer to there being better, more talented guys sitting behind worse, less talented upperclassmen. Perhaps he has been better than Trindon all along, but that damn Miles is stubbornly holding against him the arbitrary date his parents decided to have unprotected sex. "Tough break, Johnnie. Daddy shoulda quit pulling out a year or 2 sooner."

BullfrickingShit

As fricking retarded as the Rant is, the most retarded thing I see spewed here is idiots criticizing Shepard's throwing ability.

Back your shite up.

if you saw the spring game last year, then you'd have your doubts. also vids from fall practice showed quite a few wabblers. Now I wouldn't mind, at all, seeing him throw a few on run fakes. But he's not going to be a guy to hit a bunch of slants and outs trying to move the ball downfield in crunch time.

If the incoming Zach Lee is not playing for the New York Yankees this summer, he may be the answer to your actual question, which is.... who is going to get the playing time.

We shall see this spring. Not Zach Lee, but whether Shepard
"has a chance" of starting, or perhaps more to the point, whether he is allowed to pass.

As I watched Navy win their bowl, I thought of Shepard.

The answer is a resounding, "No!"

I admit, I saw neither, and if that's true, that's one thing. Most people here seem to criticize him without any basis. I'm starting to hate LSU fans. Why would anyone want to come play here and get shite on for four years?
