Yes. My reason is that I remember how confusing the offense was with Matt Flynn and Periloux. Other teams could not defend the offense, because of its complexity. Not a full fledged Spread, or running or pro set. A mixture that requires other defenses to have to prepare for many formations.
When we have a QB like Mettenberger, it will be amazing. Maybe not the first game, but during the season, you will see the transformation. Heck even JJ ran it well the second half of Bama, ULM and Ole Miss. I am not sure why we did not role out v. Arky, but I have to figure the defense was doing somethint to stop that.

I just believe execution is bigger problem for this offense than scheme.
What, exactly, is our scheme?

I love a thread like this. It proves little. It is certainly beyond our control, and it brings out the most venomous responses from anyone who SLIGHTLY disagrees with a contributor.
My comments won't add much, and I am a lot less than the voice of reason as my wife tells to stop yelling at the TV when we get scored on with six seconds left in a half last Saturday.
For what it's worth!
I think Jefferson is the most erratic QB I have ever seen at LSU, and I have been in the south end zone since 1971 for almonst every game. I don't know what "it" is, but I really don't think he has "it" as a QB. He looked reasonably good against NC with glimmers of hope. He has looked horrible in every game after that except for the last part of Bama. I would kill to get Mettenberger and move Jefferson to WR.
Lee has been much improved over his debut, but it is hard to assess his progress or ability. He comes in for at most two series and does good or bad. Why he never got a whole game or a half all his own is beyond me. He continues to sit even when Jefferson is absolutely horrible. I get the Perriloux thing, but that was two years ago. Jefferson needs to be a lot better, Lee needed a chance.
As for Gary Crowton, I hate to see people on this board bash players or coaches, but it is too late for that now. I am sure he is a fine man, and I believe him to be incredibly knowledgable about the game; however, it doesn't matter any more. There is too much bad blood and too many poor performances to think that he could ever resurrect his reputation with the Tiger faithful. It's over. Coach Miles needs to give him a graceful way out, and he needs to be replaced with a TRULY fresh face. That's not Gonzales to me. I think a true outsider with some credentials who is hungry to win and build a reputation.
I do think we performed admirably this year, but then again I thought we would be having no more than seven or eight wins. If our offense would have been slighly more productive to generate an extra touchdown in their many red zone chances, our defense or special teams would have also been more productive. But then again, if wishes were horses, then beggars would ride. What I fear most is that we don't get Mettenberger just like MSU thought they had Newton in the bag, and Crowton stays. Rivers seems to have talent and a physique to play and be a big time QB, but he is too young to jump into the fray just yet.
I hope my dreams come true! God, I know I have been a disappointment since about age thirteen, but if you can work this out for the Tigers, I promise to be the soul of serenity and grace with a rosary always in my pocket.

I dont see how you guys cant sit here and say JL hasnt imporved.
How can you say he has?
He still routinely bails at the first sight of pressure.
He still throws off his back foot.
He still lofts balls up into coverage (he was just fortunate that they didn't get picked this year).
He's a tough kid and appears to have good leadership qualities, but he just hasn't been taught how to play the position effectively.

I think just a typo, but he lit up Ole Miss in what was easily his best game of the season.

YOu are correct, sir, and I missed that. And now that I thnk about, that was why I had such high hopes for us against Ark even though we were in Little Rock.

No. But we MUST sign Mettenburger!!

No. Crowton needs to go.
He's known for his trickery and ballsy calls in tight situations, but in all honesty, Miles doesn't need him to make those calls because Miles knows when to make those calls too.
If we have a productive offense, with the occasional trickery, I think we can have an amazing offense. We have the "Mad Hatter" anyway.
Crowton fails to work to the strengths of the quarterbacks and wants them to fit his own style. When you have a veteran quarterback who has studied this stuff for years (example: Matt Flynn), when he is thrown in there, he shines. But this is the not the best scheme to develop a quarterback which is something everyone has witnessed this season as a failure (minus maybe the Bama and Ole Miss games). If Jefferson was developed, he would be more consistent. The dude is so up and down it's ridiculous.
Crowton, hit the road man.

Hell no! Crowton must go! Hell No! Crowton must go!... LSU is a 10-2 team ranked #10 in the BCS. It managed to achieve that despite being ranked #107 out of 120 in passing and 50th in points scored. LSU's saving grace this season was a solid defense (except in the two games it lost at Auburn and Arky). Imagine had LSU had an offense that ranked in the upper 1/3 in both passing, rushing and points scored... Every team in America wouldn't just respect the purple and gold; they'd fear it. Let the Ragin' Cajuns have GC. They deserve each other.
Well Said!!!

You're right, none of us are at practice to see what is being taught or hear what is being said, nor are we in the film room/locker room to hear/see what's going on there either. I have never professed to know all/see all or know better than the coaches on the field. And while I am overjoyed and thankful at the fact of LSU being 10-2 this season, I see what's put on the field just like everyone else does. And I feel that this team really hasn't executed up to its potential. We have SO much talent on offense and some of the plays that are run look like a bad rendition of Keystone Kops. People running around with that Bill Cosby "where's your mother" look on their faces. Even in the last regular season game this is happening!
I have never knocked Les Miles...ever. And probably won't either. Crowton, on the other hand, I have and I will continue to as long as he's here. And I make my statements based off what I see and off his previous records. Again, with all this talent LSU has on offense, there is no reason for it to play so anemically. I attribute that to the offensive play calling and the OC...Crowton. LSU has the talent on both sides of the ball to just punish, absolutely punish teams yet it doesn't happen. And we've all been waiting for a breakout game...a full game of dominance...not just a half. A whole, complete, offensive juggernaut of a game and it never materialized.
So no, I don't want him to stay. I would like Crowton to pull a Baltimore Colts and steal away in the middle of the night.

His offense needs a great QB because its complex and requires too many decisions. He trys to trick teams and changes the plays too much. He runs plays that dont work over and over and doesnt run the plays that do work. He tries too many different plays. He is more worried about what the defense doing instead running the plays that they cant stop. He gives our best player the ball 15 times a game and our happy feet, indecisive qb the ball 40 times a game. He makes our OL back up on their heels every other play trying to figure out how to stop 300lb men from getting to a QB that holds it too long rather than letting our OL push forward where they want to go. JJ is most effective when he runs the ball at the line or hands off.
He doesnt know how to work with what hes got. He wants to run his west coast offense in the SEC. Thats not the football we play down here. We run over people dominating the line of scrimage and the clock.
