quote:Miles has never made excuses and has never said he was 'not showing anything'. The fanbase is saying that, not Miles. Miles mantra is "we've got to play better".
that it has found its spot on top of the Miles excuses.

miles is conservative and doesn't take many risks anyway

this is a phenomenon that fans of top 20 teams succomb to at the beginning of every season. LSU, TN, Bama, etc. -- doesn't matter what team as long as it has a some success once every few years -- the spoon feeding of hype by the various media outlets, has the effect of creating, in the mind of many fans, unrealistic expectations, visions of their team busting out of the Spring camps to destroy their opponent in the opening game 60 to zip.
Basically, when this fan does not see the type of plays or outcomes they have been deluded into thinking really will happen, they begin to rationalize reasons why, such as the following:
1) It rained. (as if weather doesn't have the exact same affect on the opponent)
2) they traveled a long distance, crossing another time zone or two (as if other teams don't do this every week)
and the best excuse of all...
3) the coach, like a player of poker, is not showing his hand.
The above silly excuses are eventually proven wrong every year, yet these rationalizations resurface with each new season, I suppose, because of the ones lacking the wisdom of years:

quote:Les Miles can't play for the players, at some point they have to go out and put forth an effort and execute. Poor O-line play can't be blamed solely on Les Miles, the players deserve a large portion of the blame here.
that was the joke last night
we're lulling UGA into a comfort zone by making our OL play crappy
then when we show up in athens BOOM, our OL starts to try

True.
I'll leave you w/ this:
Does Albert Pujols or ARod try not to hit a homerun against weak pitching just to play it close to the vest?
