Since Dillon was a teenager, Earl Cotton picked his son up from school on game days. They’d go to Popeyes and get a haircut.

They sounded like they were doing Popeye's the wrong way....

But for real, thanks for linking that article. Very well done. It helps to read articles like that so that we can see these athletes as kids with real-world problems, just like the rest of us.

A little dusty in the office this morning, damn. Can hear Tom Rinaldi's voice as I read it.

Heartbreaking story, but sounds like DD is making his family proud.

If ever there was a reporter who had an excuse to get hooked on anti-depressants, he is the guy. I don't know how he does it every week.

Actually, that may be a genius idea. Barber shop/Popeyes in one - and better yet, get this in the LSU football facility.

Great article. Hard to see the emotions, insecurities, and personalities hidden behind the facade of being an LSU football player. Hope he continues to make his pops proud on and off the field.

Wow , great article. Good for Dillon . Sullivan was the WR I have been pulling for most to get some action. Now I’ve got two WR’s to pull for .

shite. Today I learned that Derrick Dillion went to Pine HS in Franklinton and not Pineville HS in Alexandria. I went 5 years not even realizing.

Dammit I'm at work around a bunch of grown men. Now I look like I'm on my period having an emotional breakdown.

Mr. Cotton raised a great boy who never quit. He kept working hard and it paid off.

I knew and played HS football with Earl. Dude was a beast in HS. Had the pleasure of reconnecting after several years after finding out Derrick was his son. Earl also has a nephew, who is still currently at Pine HS, that played Jr high sports with my son. He was alwayss at every game whether it be football or basketball. We always sat near each other for basketball games and always talked about the good old days (my dad coached football at Pine while Earl and I were there), but we also talked about our kids and how we pushed them hard if they wanted to achieve their goal of playing at the collegiate level. Earl got to see his son reach that goal and I've been fortunate to see my son reach his goal of playing college baseball. Earl really was a gentle soft spoken, humble guy. I got to believe Derrick will be that way also. I miss seeing him at Pine's games.
