They have a ton of work ahead of them to improve or it'll be 2008 again.
LSU might as well just pack it up for the year and start preparing for the following. It's one game.

O n second viewing, the defense played much better than i thought. the first drive should be chalked up to Chad Jones missing multiple tacckles and the dumpoff pass which was our d coaching staff being a little too greedy too early. All of our safeties were very inconsistent. i remember one play where Taylor shot up to the line of scrimmage on a run play to hold it to a short gain. This needs to be done consistently, etc. You can also take away the last score because of the phantom pass interfernce (horrible call). On another series , the offense, short punt and poor punt coverage gave them field goal posistion right off the bat. The dline played much better than I originally thought, but the DE's lack of experience shows in the way they don't stand their ground and contain. They don't have a feel for when to attack the QB and when to hold their ground. It will come with more game experience.

Exactly. Rushing defense was pretty good. Gave up a long run (about 35 yds) because Hawkins lost contain. Other than that Polk had about 55 yds, and Locker had about 50 yds or so scrambling. He's big and fast (faster than Tebow, it seems).

Pass defense mostly hampered by lack of pressure. After we got burned on a blitz early (the long screen pass), we spent most of the rest of the day rushing only 4 guys. The four didn't get that much pressure on Locker, and that's a little cause for concern, but, again, he is pretty darned mobile. Anytime a Div 1 guy with at good arm gets time, he will hurt you, and that's what happened.

There were a few bad pass coverage plays: Eugene gave up a long pass, but he was right there--he just didn't grab the ball; Taylor got beat deep but recovered only to get a bad PI call on him. Overall, d-back (and linebacker) coverage was pretty good.
In fact, I thought the linebackers were much improved in covering backs out of the backfield.

Great Thread

Game 1 on the Road (Time Change as well +2Hours)
New DC, players still adapting to a new system
Hostile Crowd
Very Good QB Mobile
OOC Game

I think we will see a TOTALLY different ball club come Saturday night in Death Valley!

They will be JACKED up and we will be like a Neopolitian Defense as ever against Vandy!

I'd like to know why no one is talking about Chavis dumbass plan to keep the CB's 110 yard and safety at 15 yards of the LS.

I TOLD YOU THIS WOULD HAPPEN BEFORE HE EVER COACHED A GAME AT LSU..This is the way he works..and FWIW..He made the statement.."I have more talent at LSU than I ever did at Tennessee"...If that's the case..You guy's are in for it... Can you say "Matt Mauck" and the quarterback draw"...

There were a lot of bright spots (linebacker play, Peterson, Nevis, Downs, even Woods).

The inability to wrap-up is scary.

Absolutely.

There's a good chance Washington's 2009 team would have scored 40 on LSU's 2008 defense.

There's a good chance LSU's 2003 defense would have shut down LOCKER. Who cares about last year? WTF???
