Purely hypothetical and none of this matters of course but it does seem crazy that there was a world a 12-1 SEC champ would’ve been left out of the playoff in this scenario.

I only bring this up because the Ole Miss and Bama games were very winnable(even FSU was pretty close deep into the 2nd half before the defense got exposed and it got out of hand). But after the offense kind of laid an egg Week 1, nobody had a chance of stopping them(outside of Daniels getting targeted out of the Bama game). As horrendous as that defense was, that offense gave LSU a chance to beat any team in the country.

But say a couple different bounces happen and in the Ole Miss and Bama games and then go on to win a shootout over Georgia in the SEC Championship. This would’ve been the CFP picture:
13-0 Big 10 Champ Michigan
13-0 PAC 12 Champ Washington
12-1 Big 12 Champ Texas(also had a road win over Bama)
13-0 ACC Champ Florida State
12-1 SEC Champ LSU

Obviously the huge controversy was Bama getting in over FSU but doubt LSU would’ve gotten the same benefit of the doubt after getting blown out week 1 even though Travis was done for the year.

I guess this is relevant in that premier OOC games can do way more harm than good since the committee is going to respect the grind of the usual SEC schedule as is, especially now with 9 conference games.

In your hypothetical if LSU were to have beaten Bama and beating Georgia with Daniels being the Heisman Trophy Winner I would have been shocked if they left LSU out of the playoff at 12-1.

Now with that being said there was no way we were going 12-1.

could have fielded the 1972 Miami dolphins and brain dead Brian Kelly would have managed to frick something up and not get in

Nah, Jordan Travis's injury is a tough break.FSU looked like doo doo in the ACC conference championship.

If JD5 beats the back-to-back CFP champion in Georgia and looked like a Heisman frontrunner doing it, there is 0 chance the committee would leave LSU out, hypothetically speaking.

LSU would have been in over Texas.

The controversy that year was that you couldn’t leave Texas out and put bama in because Texas beat bama earlier in the season.

So basically you’d have the 3 undefeateds and LSU
