But Etling is a better and more efficient passer than Hurts.

So, if LSU throws 10 times a game, completes 6 for 100 yards and wins, it's really important?
I think that's all you read. The passing O is relevant because it hurts our Scoring Offense to be so one dimensional. Etling can't throw us to victory. The best measure of efficiency in any sport is the score board as it is the only one that matters in the end. 72 ranked scoring O is a problem in my eyes. The two biggest culprits, IMO is the OL and QB position.
I applaud Etling for having more fight than most young men would have in his situation. I hope he makes me look like a fool next Saturday and I will gladly eat crow. I just don't see the lights coming on against the most feared Defense in NCAA in Game 9 of his RS senior season.

Yeah I know it's all relative, but you get the point. If we want to beat Alabama, we're going to make Hurts do it because we think he's the weakness. That's a reasonable take, even though Hurts has been very efficient himself (9-1 TD-INT ratio, 63% completion rate).

Etling has been slightly more efficient, but that's buoyed by his propensity to take deep shots down the field.
The bottom line is both LSU and Alabama are trying to ask their QBs to do very little, and their individual talent is the main reason for that.

Listen man, no one is claiming he's a superstar. He's a decent QB with limitations.

He has more 40 yard pass plays after 8 games than Rohan Davey 2001, Matt Mauck 2003, Jamarcus Russell 2006, Matt Flynn 2007 and Zach Mettenberger 2013 had in those entire seasons.
Get out of here with facts. geez
I am just super freaking happy that we finally have a qb that doesn't throw the ball at the RB's feet or 4 feet over his head when he tries to dump it off out in the flats.

Certainly, you posted a screenshot of a statistic from a credible source.
The statistic you posted is QB Rating or Passer Rating.
You called it QBR in your title, but it is not QBR.
QBR is garbage. You actually posted a better statistic than QBR.
But you'd rather argue about it.
Dude, you made a mistake.
Your title is wrong.
You're right. I mistook the less telling rating for the more telling rating. You yourself said QB Rating is what's important.
I'm admitting my mistake and editing the title.

He has done an adequate job managing the offense against most of our opponents.
If you're looking to assign blame for Troy, look no further than the kickers.
If they make short-mid range FGs we win that game.

Your negative posts on this board are stale. Nobody asked or cares in this thread who u would take over Etling. STFU fool.

None of the passes to the TE or to Williams required any skill whatsoever. A 16 year old could have completed them, and they were all completely wide open.
He took what the defense gave him. That's smart football.
Our previous starter would have injured a fan in the middle rows on those same passes.

I want to see efficiency AND volume before I say someone is a good QB.
Mason Rudolph is #1 in yards per game, #3 in passer rating, and is throwing it 34 times per game. I know he's a good QB.
Baker Mayfield is #5 in yards per game, #1 in passer rating, and is throwing it 29 times per game. I know he's a good QB too.
Christ you people are never satisfied.
Look at what we had at QB in 14 and 15.
The narrative then was that if LSU could just get a serviceable QB watch out.
Well, now we have a serviceable QB who can and has led come from behind victories on multiple occasions, and would have two more through no fault of his own.

I am not interested in assigning blame to the young man for anything. I don't blame him for anything the last two seasons. He is doing everything he can to succeed in a tough situation.

No argument from me there. It seems like LSU may have solved this based on the Ole Miss game, but pressure will be ramped up considerably against Bama.
What amazes me is that some of you are throwing numbers around like they mean something without context. Saying Danny Etling is a good QB based on any metric without context is as disingenuous and deceptive as the "eye test" argument that others espouse.

He's wholly average, and if you surround him with a team like 2011 LSU, that would probably be enough.
Or 2015 LSU for that matter.
It really shows how good a coach Les was in hindsight looking at how many games he won with feces playing QB.

Well on the Chark throw he was drilled and couldn’t step into the throw, that wasn’t on him. He misses a couple throws every game just like every qb on earth. We don’t throw a ton so it’s magnified and you add the Rantards idiotic assessment of football and he gets a totally false label. The facts are the facts and it doesn’t matter how they were accumulated. What’s even more to his favor is as the competitions gotten better his efficiency has increased. Anyone who knows football knows exactly why Canada called what he did Saturday and it had nothing to do with Etling playing poorly. The guy has our schools 3rd best passer rating he has 1 turnover and he’s around +100 yards rushing. Plus he’s doing all this with no pass protection and 1 WR in the SEC. these people that say he’s horrible just don’t have a clue.
You and Roger have been spot on in this thread. Ignore the haters.

And since when does it matter who or where completions are made? Bama used to live on the screen play within 5 yards of the LOS. Just get the ball to your skill players, whomever they may be.
Exactly. 20+ yards per completion is impressive no matter who catches the ball or where.
It's like people are oblivious to the fact that we have an OC calling plays. Is it possible he knows what he's doing?
