same, not to sound heartless but week after week of, "he was a great student athlete until cancer came along and now he's a fighter trying to live his dream" just numbs me to it all now

Wow!!!! What a comment!!!
You stay numb to it until it affects you firsthand like it has my family. My 16 year old was diagnosed in March this year with stage 4. 54 weeks of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation. He’s in his 5th week of radiation now and can’t eat because they are radiating the lymph nodes in his neck. He can’t eat, swallow, take pills, so he’s on a morphine pump to get through all this time. Prognosis after all this is 20-30% survival rate after 5 years.
So you stay numb because by God I’m far from it because I’m fighting with my kid right now!!!!
Just a stupid arse thing to say!!!

Thank you for that very much! We live in GA and have to drive 100 miles for all his treatments (into enemy territory) at UF Shands in Gainesville, FL. But they have been amazing.
I have thought many times about sharing our story on here because I love LSU and Tiger nation but with us living in Ga, I knew not many people would know us.
Thank you again for your kind words.

I don't think he meant anything by it. I kinda get what he's saying. They do these stories every week and they just all kinda seem to run together. In no way was he trying to diminish what people who are dealing with these situations go through and struggle with. My grandmother lost a battle with lung cancer after a long fight. Just last month one of my close friends from work finally came back after missing 8 months due to chemo.
It just seems like the same story every week with different characters. The one reason I like it is to remind everyone that gets so caught up in gamedays and drinking and partying, that there are MUCH more important things in the world than football.
I'm sorry for what you and your family are going through man. Stay strong. Tiger Nation IS with you and I personally think you should share your story!

I am so sorry about your son. I’m praying for him and for all of you. I’ve been the patient and I’ve had family members being the patients and I would rather be sick than see someone I love suffer. Keep your faith.

Sad to say but, we (humans) dont quite feel what is real until we experience it first hand. Sorry for your situation and I will keep your family in my thoughts.
FWIW I dont like these stories when I'm watching sports. Everybody has problems. This is when I want to escape from mine not experience others problems. Many will disagree with me and I dont care

Thank you all for the responses and all of you are right and right now just seeing my son with radiation burns and in so much pain it struck a nerve.
I do see where these stories can get redundant and everyone does have problems. I think the biggest reason for today was this is last Saturday in September which is pediatric cancer awareness month. That’s the other thing so frustrating is that less than 4% of funding goes to pediatric cancer research.
Thank you all again and no matter what we are all
