The comments on this thread reagarding Brown and Brady show how many just like to look for the negatives and overemphasize them instead ofseeing the positves.
Don't get me wrong. I appreciate those 3 winning years and all the hard work JB gave to LSU. I was also disappointed with the end of Dale's tenure and his inability to get to the bloody top with 3 NBA players on the roster. However, one man was a uniter, the other was polarizing.
Bring it!

HUH? I HOPE YOU DON'T MEAN THIS? If you mean "making it loud". then I would agree. Don't forget who built that house! I saw Pete play when I was a kid at the John M Parker, the game is fuzzy, but I remember all of the screaming for Pete.

Daddy Dale is gone, and this LSU fan is glad. I just wish he'd stop trying to rehab his image, by using LSU. He had alot fooled, but he didn't fool everybody, not by a long shot.

Jake, Pete was an incredibly talented circus sideshow who was allowed to do what only he could do. I was so fortunate to see every game he played at the Ag Center. If he'd have played in this era, probably at Duke or NC, the leash on him would've been ridiculously short. Bet he'd have been an All-American, anyways.
Dale Brown was hired because he was young, a go-getter and about as positive a person as you could ever meet. That first team, The Hustlers, had a 6'2" center and a hot-shot guard named "Hondo". This was 1972.
Soon after, Aussie Eddie Palubinskas and Kentucky POY Kenny Higgs signed up, and we were actually winning as a team! The Assembly Center was becoming a snakepit in the mid-'70's, and when a top-ranked UK team showed up in '79 a ridiculous win by LSU pushed us over the top. Teams were scared to play us at home. CREDIT DALE BROWN! I hope you know the rest.
Pete got that thing built. Dale Brown made it come alive. I'd like to hear that place roar again.

Duaward is an idiot and an ...donkey

I apologize to Duward and to the board. I disagree with his opinion, but my response was not appropriate, and was more about what's going on with me and not about him. I retract my comments and offer my humble apology. In this case, I was the idiot and arse.

The thing about the 1979 whuppin of kentucky - we had at least one or two starters out with fouls.

It was the whole starting 5. We won that game in OT playing our second string against the team that ended up winning the NCAA title due to Goose Gibbens going ape in the final. 42 points, right? They also had the two 6'11" goons, Rick Robey and some other galoop. Dwayne Baily with the dunk FTW!!! I don't think the AC was ever louder than that, and we were on the basketball map for many years.

There were some fun times had when Dale Brown was coach...the man traveled the state promoting LSU basketball.....and the fans took to him right away....took him a little time to get going, but when the LSU train rolled, it was hard to stop it.....what? 13 consecutive NCAA appearances...is that right? The AC was rockin....students lined up on the ramps of the AC to get in for games....it WAS the Deaf Dome. The games against Georgetown, Notre Dame and Texas in the Superdome were as wild as they come....attendance records shattered.....the dome was crazy loud, too.....and there were beer sales for those games. BTW...I dont think LSU lost any of the games they played in the Superdome....and that included the NCAA Regional against W-State and Arkansas. The 65,000 that were there for the G'town game went beserk on the basket at the buzzer to give LSU the win. The atmosphere in the PMAC under John Brady had NEVER come close to the craziness in that place under Dale Brown....even in the years JB had success. Say what you want....but LSU fans loved Dale Brown and his teams......and they DID NOT like John Brady. Anyone who cant see this is evidently blind.

Cant we just be happy for what Dale Brown did for us?

What Daddy Dale did for LSU basketball was akin to someone making Vandy a power in football and winning SEC Titles. The man accomplished a minor miracle, there will never be greater years in BB than '77-'81. I know, I was there.

I was there too and appreciate the memories his teams provided for me greatly despite my issues with him which were many, and how he left the program upon his departure.
I was a big hoops fan before the success. His first 6 teams weren't much to remember, but my passion was a passion only a kid can have for a school and the winning that followed was that much sweeter.

The Tigers actually beat Kentucky in overtime in 1978. The Wildcats went on to win the national title, but LSU served notice there would soon be a new King Of the Hill in the. For the next 15 years LSU battled Kentucky to a virtual standstill and their twice yearly battles were often epic encounters.

I remember listening to it on the radio. Big followup dunk by the Dubberly Dude Floyd Bailey off the bench.
It was a watershed moment for LSU. The team did not make the tourney, (which was not as expanded as today) nor the NIT, but had a winning season and actually generated some excitement that propelled them the next year to LSU's first SEC title in 25 years.
The next year we did not win the regular season title but beat Kentucky to win our one and only SEC Tournament Title and I was lucky enough to be there in Birmingham.
